If someone actually likes their cell phone and the service provider please tell us why.

I guess we now know why Apple is moving into this area.

I've been using my phone as a BT modem on VZ for some time. The trick is to turn of EVDO and have the phone in 1X mode

A couple of relevant threads (perhaps you have seen).

Yeah I saw that (10.4.9). It still says "this phone doesn't support calendar synchronization" though when I pair it.

I have heard of going to 1x for Bt modem. I guess I can always do that until I get an iPhone, but I used to use mine as is...no 1x mod. I'm thinking it's the phone. This worked up until last November at least. Did VZ change something? Or is it the phone?

I was worried about this when the iPhone was announced. AppleInsider will become flooded with post after post about how much Sony/Motorola/Nokia/etc. phones "suck"......

Where I live, VZ went to EVDO in about November. If I remember, I just set the thing up using my mac's BT assistant and enabled the access the internet using 1xRTT function (after pairing) and then used the InternetConnect on my PB (after setting up a new network account according to the instructions in the web pages above) I did a couple of seem edits way back when I got the phone (e.g., change the startup and sutdown gifs and outside image (only when the phone is flipped open), but I don't think any of the seems helped with making the connection.

    Cheers

I recently bought the LG EnV, and this phone is great! It does not sync in iSync yet, but I am sure that will come with an update. However, the phone's reception is perfect and it is small and efficient with speedy menus and the ability to access just about everything. It also has a full qwerty keyboard. I was able to download a program called bitpim and I can load ringtones and a lot more to the phone, and yes, you can use it as a modem using the built-in bluetooth. I would recommend this phone over all others Verizon has. I went with this over the iPhone because Cingular is not available in my area.

Have you actually used it as a modem?

My post has little to do with the iPhone actually. I just want the functionality that I...well, want. If that's the iPhone, great. I just know I hate my phone. I guess it works well enough until I can weasel out of my contract.
