I don't think it's required. Apple could trump slingbox with a zero-configuration solution using your iPhone and your Mac, with a .Mac account as a go between.
.Mac could basically act as a private tracker server, like with torrents, and would automatically keep a private record of your iPhone and Mac's IP address. Then when request streaming media, the iPhone auto-connects directly to your Mac and streams the content.
This would also make syncing your Mac and iPhoen a breeze. If I add or update an addressbook entry, either device could update your .Mac account whcih in turn could push it to the other device(s).
.Mac offers a great deal of potential here.. Using existing Quicktime frameworks, Apple already trumps Slingbox in it's abilty to stream media. All Apple would have to do is add Quicktime Streaming Server components to Leopard and it's golden.
