The alternative for Apple to run Intel chips was very slow emulation of parts of Mac OS. Mac OS was dependent on Motorola chips at the time, and they needed a better processor, enter PPC, the only CPU at the time that could emulate Motorola without a huge performance drop. All other projects to rewrite Mac OS were failures, until NeXT came along.

    No.

Because they can and because it gives them something to do.

"Mac's will NEVER run intel hw!" Because Mac OS couldn't run on Intel

"mobile TV's? never - screen's way too small for that" Enter, Apple TV, the 5th Generation was a test run, and with the iPhone they have some damn good technology to handle it.

"Windows? why would we ever mess with that" We don't, unless it's a job requirement.

perhaps because of all these having somehow magically proven true? Not magically, it only made good business sense.

instead of screaming you ought to revisit those areas and look at the evidence in place.Yes you should. -Sebastian

Or you know, the delay could be because Apple pulled programmers from Leopard to fix a software problem in the iPhone, and developers will still have a full featured beta by WWDC... but no of course not, Apple would never do that. Oh wait, that's exactly what their press release says... whaddya know? Oh and about running Mac OS X on generic PCs in 3, 5, or more years... I like the alternative of never. However, circumstances change all the time, but considering they have always been and still are a consumer electronics company (Computers are simply another category under the overall "Consumer Electronics" market) that writes their own software instead of relying on licensed junk or Linux, I don't see it for at least another oh say... maybe when they become a software company.

You mean, we have a guesser. The fact that you think he's right is beside the point, he doesn't work for Apple.

You must be one of those folks that thinks OS X is no question fully Unix® right? Apple has clearly done their job here, and you've proven it. IMO the reasons OS X is delayed are irrelevant, OS X is coming out in October, I don't dare to think or care why, the fact that Apple had the balls to hold OS X off another 4 months says more than anything, it should be a pretty good release, we'll see. I won't be getting an iPhone myself anyway.
