Navigator and Explorer worked off of a vast ocean metaphore. This was excellent when the internet was new and sparse. You were going around the world to visit something new. The voyage took you through uncharted, but more importantly, unpopulated expanses of ocean.
Now that the internet is bursting at the seams, 'Safari' alludes to a more appropriate analogy. The internet is more like a thriving, populated, and untamed wilderness through which you must pick your way.
Or then again, maybe it just sounded good to the Apple-ites?
I really do like the icon (Chimera's sucks ballz) but in the spirit of Sherlock, wouldn't it have been cooler to have like a compass with with a pith helmet instead? Then they'd match!</strong><hr></blockquote>
tat would be even cooler!! and i do agree that safari's icon beat chimera's icon BIG TIME!!

<strong>You'd think they would have at least checked versiontracker once over the past year to make sure it rendered properly...</strong><hr></blockquote>

The issue with VersionTracker's front page has been addressed. The page is actually malformed, and we had to improve our error handling code to deal with the malformation. (A stray div wrapping random table cells inside a table.) Note that this was not a bug in Konqueror but was a regression in Safari only.
<strong>The best thing about it s the speed of "page forward" and "page back." Greased lightning!</strong><hr></blockquote>
what's wrong with chimera's history seen by side?
i prefer tabs. and i like more the bookmark system of chimera (by side), i had an overdose of the brushed metal (not only safari, also ichat > adium) and the history tab exists if you havent noticed it yet... at least the boosted chimera is faster so i'm one of those who didn't go nuts about safari.
The minute I clicked on to the Apple page post MWSF keynote here in Australia and saw the button for Safari I knew straight away it was their iBrowser. I think the name is very suitable indeed for internet. For me when I use the net I am always 'Hunting' and 'Exploring'.
