Whether it's a multi-touch screen or a multi-touch keyboard, if new iMacs come to WWDC, do you think they will have some Multi-touch hardware and software?
There will come a day when you eat those words. 2 years ago if you were told Apple would make a touchscreen cellphone, you'd probably laugh your ass off, but you would have been wrong to do so.

No, I think a touchscreen phone is great. I think multi-touch is perfect for a handheld device. I don't see the point in a multi-touch computer or keyboard.
And My God please do not post the Jeff Han TED Talks video.

Forget about Han for a second, wait and see. Maybe not this new iMac, but we'll see what happens on the next next one. A multi-touch keyboard for a Mac desktop could do to the Optimus, what the Optimus is trying to do to the standard keyboard, and it could also eliminate the mouse at the same time. I can imagine the possibilites of such a product, somehow I don't think you see things like I do. So we'll agree to disagree, but in the meantime I'm still waiting on a Multi-touch keybord from Apple.
For the sake of argument though, could you imagine for a second that for every different app you launched in OS X, a different, optimised set of keys appeard on your keyboard's screen. Say you launch iWeb for example, all these 'back' 'forward' 'inspector' 'font' etc. buttons would appear over on the right of your keyboard, and if you move your finger across the keyboard your mouse cursor would move, wow! Your dock could replace your F-keys. If you preferred a Dvorak layout, you could change that in preferences. The advantages of this setup are too big to ignore, I hope Apple takes advantage of this technology in big ways over the next year, and not just for their phone.
Jobs said "the mouse, the clickwheel, and now Multi-touch", if Jobs thinks Multi-touch is as important as the mouse was, you might be a little surprised by what he announces this year.
Not this version but in a future version yes. They'll need to go back to some design which is a flexible as the iMac G4 so you can have it in a "normal" position for keyboard and mouse use and lower it right down to just above the desk and angle back for touch use.
Organising photos in iPhoto, web surfing, media playing. All could be very nicely done with touch/gestures. Apple dropped the Floppy, the CRT, next the keyboard....

I think you're missing the point, I meant an upright screen (with no touchscreen abilities) and then a seperate flat-on-the-desk touchscreen keyboard. Basically the same set-up you have now, but your buttoned keyboard is replaced by another screen flat on your desk, the shape of a keyboard, and your mouse is removed from the desktop computer equation.
I think its more probable Apple to release a new product, like a tablet firts. I understand the infinite possibilities that multi-touch WILL bring us, but i realise that the REVOLUTION is gradual.
I didn't believe that Apple would ever release a tablet, but now with multi-touch I've changed my mind. Now I'm sure of it.
I completely disagree. A multi-touch keyboard could very easily be user-configurable for each application, which would really open doors.
Having a touch-sensitive screen can also be very handy for certain applications.
The thing is though most application use the same shortcuts. It's like Optimus Keyboard, yes it's cool that the keys can change. But once I know where the keys are, I remember them.
With a truly user-definable space, it would be possible to make special shapes and sizes for keys.
For example, you could make a special control panel for iMovie that would could have a scroll wheel to control forward/reverse searching, play, stop, etc, much like the wheel on a recording device. You could then do with one finger what takes two hands now. You could also make adjuster bars for when you want to fade sound, etc.
You could make and place your own keys for other options, which would then brng up other screens when necessary. For example, press Type and a keyboard would appear.
Just simple thoughts, but it could be fantastic for special needs users (my neighbor has only two fingers on his right hand and only limited use over them) or for special purposes.
Apple actually tried patenting a changeable keyboard last year, I think, but t was panels that slipped on and off the main device.
Maybe not this new iMac, but we'll see what happens on the next next one.
..and the next and the next and the next.. till one day Apple actually DO release it when we are all old and grey, and people like you come out of the wood work to say "i said this would happen" the problem is no one will care by then.
how many keyboards has optimus sold? set the world alight yet? NOPE! cos its too danged expensive, and it will be too danged expensive for apple to upgrade a £20/28euro/$40 keyboard to one that might cost $500 AND include it with every imac/promac as part of the package, because THATS the only way they will get significat uptake on it.
THATS why it wont happen, sorry, but it wont.
I'd LIKE them to do it, and voted YES, but , not gonna happen.

The cost issue right now is the issue, but don't worry, tech moves quite quickly. If Apple wait until we're old and gray like you say, Microsoft will most certainly be the innovators then. The iPhone has a lot of features this keyboard wouldn't need, that costs $499, and all the costs on existing iMac parts are coming down in price every month. I'll be saying I told you so in less then 2 years, and possibly even quite a bit sooner. There seems to be a few like 'Bergermeister' in these forums that seem to get it, with regard to the multi-touch Mac possibilities, but they are few and far between.

not interesting, move on!
There's no point to it, so no.
