Yes, the iPhone takes SIM cards. Yes you can put in any card you want. It may not work, however...=P
Don't forget that this is Apple we're talking about. I doubt anything inside the iPhone is user-accessible, including the SIM card. After all, the battery isn't, and that's something you'd expect to be easily replaceable too...

Once again, as posted elsewhere, it DOES have a SIM card tray
It's also looking like the tray will work the same way you open the battery on the bottom of the apple remote, stick a paper clip into the little circular hole and and push and it just slides out.
