This would make some kind of sense if BT headsets came in two flavors: "works fine" and "doesn't work fine".
Then we could safely assume Apple's was one of the former, and anything over what you paid for a different "works fine" unit would be money wasted.
But that's not really how it is, is it? There's "works fine", there's "works great", there's "works fine and has really nice ergonomics", "works fine with outstanding battery life", "works great with really nice ergonomics and outstanding battery life", "works great and is really comfortable and light", "works fine, is comfortable and has outstanding battery life".........
You get the idea. There are any number of reasons that the Apple BT headset might be well worth the extra $40 over what you paid for one that is good enough for you.
If you want to make a point about relative value you should probably do it with items that you know something about beyond the manufacturer and a rumored price.
I thought everyone who has used bluetooth before and have seen a variety knew what they were talking about but silly me. You, who haven't also seen the apple bluetooth, you obviously know what you are talking about but little ole me, i don't. Thanks for clarifying for me. What is interesting that you did not consider the person who proclaimed most $89 bluetooth headsets to be bad to be ignorant (i wonder how he knew this?.. he must have owned or come into contact with a substantial number of bluetooth headsets for $89 and less)...
Anyway, no one on this board knows what apple bluetooth is, so why don't we all pack our bags and go home.. don't bother comment at all.
Also, I never said the apple bluetooth sucks. I said that $89 bluetooths are usually good and do not suck. Go ahead, reread my post.. reading is fundamental.
Also i said apple bluetooth could be same quality as a good $89 bluetooth headset and you are paying premium for apple name and style. In fact, i'd bet a year salary that apple name and style is factored in the price. You disagree with the dollar amount apple name and style is worth, ok.. but don't tell me to talk about what i know.. i am talking about what i know.
Now you're making things up. While I didn't say that all cheaper headsets were bad, most seem to be.
But, you know nothing about Apple's.
Neither do you.. i guess i should have said that apple bluethooth could be worth $89 plus additional for name and style instead of IS $89 plus name and style. I'd give you that but my guess is just as valid as yours, thank you.
Also how do you know most $89 bluetooth headsets are bad?. Do you review a number of headsets for a living?. Have you come into contact with a substantial amount? (please don't say friends.. i have friends too, all with bluetooth headsets.. that will get you nowhere other than.. my friends experiences vs your friends).

No, I've seen a lot of reviews of BT headsets. It's pretty simple.
Most of the cheaper ones aren't very good.
That doesn't mean that they aren't "good enough", which is also the description usually given to MS's products by industry writers, and that sure sells, and most people seem satisfied.
You're the one assuming that this will be equal to an $89 dollar model, rather than to the other $129 models out there.
My, and others, assumption, unless otherwise found to be untrue, and it could very well be, is that Apple's headphone will probably be equal to other $129 models, more or less.
Without knowing any better, you are already assigning a value to this product.

I'm not pretending that I do.
But, as I said in my other post, you are the one assuming that it will be worth considerably less than is price.
That's a big, and unfair, assumption.
I then have to think that you feel as though all of Apple products are selling for more than 40% than they are worth, despite the fact that it has been demonstrated that it isn't so.
Simply because Apple doesn't choose to compete in the lowest price ranges doesn't mean that where they do choose to compete, their prices are higher. They aren't.
I've already said, several times, that I've read plenty of reviews, as I've wanted to get one for my Treo for a while. You don't have to use one for yourself to see how they compare to others when being tested.

First , I know part of it's value is due to apple name and style. It always is.
Second, apple charges a higher premium than other companies.. don't believe me?..
try buying memory from apple vs other companies.
That is enough for me.
Also, all of our assumptions will be found to be true of false at some point..
your belief that it is actually worth $129 is just as valid (not more) as my assumption that it is a fancy dressed up $89 bluetooth headset.
Heck, it could be better than all other $129 bluetooth headsets.
The question to ask is, do you really believe apple actually manufactured this headset?.
If not, then they subcontracted to some manufacturer that already makes headsets. Since
headsets are generally bad (according to you), why would apple be different? (perhaps jobs bullied the headset company into making high quality headsets for him?).
Apple is like every other company.. they don't manufacturer a lot of what they sell. Example, they make computers but don't manufacturer the cd drive or hard drive.. hence, if they sell it at a premium, you have to ask yourself why?.
Anyway, i would like to spend all my waking hrs arguing my point but i have a life. Friday is just 3 days away. We'll see... i am sure someone will post a review.
