I hate to say it, but my mom's 400/192 G3 iMac running 9.2 outruns my 450/512 G4 Cube running 10.2 by miles when it comes to Flash...

    andrew-

there are several excellent online forums/resources that you might want to check out:

    <a href="http://www.flashkit.com/board/"; target="_blank">flash kit</a>

probably the largest and most comprehensive place for flash on the web. lots of knowledgable people who will be able to help you with just about any question you might have!

<a href="http://www.were-here.com"; target="_blank">www.were-here.com</a> used to be my favorite (similiar to flashkit) but they seem to have closed shop a couple of months ago (R.I.P.).

    <a href="http://www.flashguru.co.uk/"; target="_blank">flashguru</a>

always useful info here plus a lot of links to other sites...

concerning your fla. - i had a quick look and it looks ok (it seems to be doing everything it's programmed to do ...?), however, i strongly suggest that you get into actionscripting: it's really not that difficult and will open up a whole world of possibilities/flexibility to your design.

Thanks bryan, My problem is I don't tend to look at manuals, so I make my own ways of doing things, and then usually realise they're not ideal.. or wrong.

I do use actionscript, but I'm not particularly good at it so I tend to avoid it, but that's definitely something I could work on, as well as just finding a more efficient symbol/group/mask structure.

And thanks for the links, I've had trouble finding good flash tutorials before now.

The same situation for me, all your test movies played back at around 10fps, never going slower than 9 or faster than 11, hopefully the next version of Safari beta will have this fixed.

    12 fps test: 10

    20 fps test: 16.6666

    30 fps test: 25

    60 fps test: 50

    This is on a dual 500 G4.

I get the same results when trying the latest nightly Chimera.

Not too surprisingly, OmniWeb performs better, actually giving the correct framerates. Specifically:

    12 fps test: 12.0048

    20 fps test: 20

    30 fps test: 30.0300

60 fps test: bouncing between 59.8802 and 60.2409

Safari 1.0 v60 has much better flash performance, although it's not perfect.

FYI, v60 gives me the same results at v56.

    OmniWeb is still king.
