A touch screen imac...or even laptop for that matter is such a silly idea.

I'm all for new technology. I'm a geek for it. BUT....come on.

What is the point of a touch screen imac? There is none.

Its not a necessity like it is on an iphone or a touch screen ipod for that matter. But not on a desktop mac or even a laptop. It'd just be a useless gimmick that raises the price needlessly.

Stop right there. I agree. A touch screen OS X tablet, or a touch screen keyboard is not though, in my opinion.

I've never seen anyone using a "tablet".

For everyday use they seem totally useless. Maybe if you work at a company or factory where you have to walk around and take inventory...then a tablet is like an electronic clipboard.

But for mass market? No way. Never will fly.

A touch screen on a product like the iphone makes sense. As well as the ipod. Because they are so small.

But people like their laptops. They like to type on a keyboard. Being able to fold a laptop and have the keys on one side and the screen on the other makes sense. It saves space. A tablet is no replacement for a laptop. I don't see a market at all. A touch screen keyboard on the screen itself would take up too much room and defeat the purpose of having a screen. You'd have to make bigger and bigger screens to expand valuble viewing space. Again, it defeats the purpose of portability. People would have to carry bigger and bigger screens around to compensate.

No...the laptop format is hear to stay. It just works. And with flash drives on the horizon, there is still room to make them thinner.

But your point about a touch screen keyboard replacing the old style keyboard is interesting. But with a screen and a touch screen keyboard sucking juice...battery life would suffer. So thats an issue.

Plus I think people would miss the tactile feel of a traditional keyboard. On something like the ipod or iphone, it makes sense....because blackberry kepads are so small. It saves space and makes sense in a handheld device.

But I doubt a laptop with a seperate touch screen keyboard would work. I don't think people would like it or adapt well. Just my opinion.

    Anyway...we shall see.

i hope that the laptops dont go with a touch screen. what i think would be nice is a graphic area next to the mouse pad for using pens, programming key's and such.

a option on a macbook pro would be nice. real hard to explain but would be great for photoshop and graphic programs like that...

Imagine how tired your arms and traps would be after a few hours of reaching out to smear the screen with finger grunge !!!!! I'd rather go back to the retracting cup holders. At least those would shake back and forth to keep the sugar in my coffee from settling.

No, a touch implies a touch. A tap implies a click, and a tap with two fingers could imply a right-click. It's all about making the computer easier to use, if Apple attempted something like this, you can bet it would be cohesive and user-friendly.

There will be a new iMac within the next few weeks. With all the increased traffic through the Apple stores, thanks to the iPhone, it just doesn't make sense to offer potential new consumers a computer product that is almost a year old.

Most of the new iPhones are being snapped up by faithful Apple brand loyalists who already have a good understanding of Mac products. The new iMac will show up in stores just in time for the second wave of customers who have never bought a Mac but are coming in to see what this whole iPhone brouhaha is about.
