yeah, good luck getting the site to load. every friggin' mac user on earth is going to the site, even just out of curiosity... slahdotted out the wazoo.
taking days to load pages, even through safari.
they're also teasing it out. looks like we're going to get one screenshot a day for the week. yipee.
Actually, those aren't "native" tabs in the strictest sense. The standard tabs are centered. These could simply be subclassed, though, to start at the left.
Hmmm. Looks nice. The last time I saw Quark was on version...ermmm...on...a...prime-evil Powermac...many, many...moons ago. Learned Quark on it, I did...Easy to learn...it was...(Yoda voice...)
Still going for the Adobe Design Collection come July. You can get four key Adobe apps for Quarks one.
Maybe we'll see a New York Macworld launch on 970 POWERMacs, eh?
Of course, the minute Xpress on X actually gets out of the door, there will be precious little space to hide for those clinging to OS 9 for graphics...

Maybe font management will get better by then as well.
Like it hasn't been long enough?
I wonder what really took them so long. Since its OS X only maybe it was a total rewrite in Cocoa. I could see that being the reason for it. If they took the easy way and did a carbon port it would have taken them half the time. If that happened my guess is it would have came out with Photoshop.
I don't think one would have to rewrite Applescripts for OS X, I thought OS 9 ones were compatible with OS X ones.
yeah, maybe then SJ will come out with a second coffin and say..."ok, last time i was joking, but this time, OS 9 is really dead..."
can't wait till everything is made just for X...it will make life smoother, well at least mac life smoother...g

I still see the big publishing companies taking at least 6-12 months to migrate to OS X, and either Quark 6 (unless we see another 4.0'esque intro) or InDesign 3.0. It will take them that long to evaluate and begin working them into thier workflow's. Total migration probably wont be done till 18 months after that....

From just a brief look, I'd say it's Carbon. Or if they did go Cocoa, they didn't make use of much of the prefab objects and frameworks. Lesse? Toolbars? Nope. Rulers? Nope. Cocoa color panel? Nope. Standard tabs or titlebar widgets for utility windows? Nope and nope.
If they did go Cocoa, they sure did it the hard way. It would be a lot less compelling to go to the trouble if they didn't want to take advantage of even these GUI elements.
Quark 6 is going to be the biggest piece of junk, ever!! Just look at history. Quark 4 was, a piece of junk. I worked at an ad agency when it came out, and Quark 4 had so many problems, we had to DOWNGRADE dozens of computers back to Quark 3. Now, Quark 5 is another piece of junk. Have any of you ever USED Quark 5?? Ever experience the complete system freeze for 3 seconds, followed by a 5 second pause, then another complete system freeze? Yup. That's Quark 5. We hate it over here.
Now, Quark 4 and Quark 5 were released on Quark's own sweet timeline. (read - 5 years) Quark 6 is being released with the proverbial gun to their heads.

The first sentence reads, Quark web site down for maintenance... the second reads "die Quark Website..." I know it's German, butt still...
Note the system requirements for Quark 6:
Mac OS
Mac OS X v10.2
CD-ROM drive for installation
Minimum 128MB total RAM
230MB available hard disk space for QuarkXPress installation
TCP/IP network for site license (using Quark License Administrator)
Windows
Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP
CD-ROM drive for installation
Minimum 128MB total RAM
190MB available hard disk space for installation
TCP/IP network for site license (using Quark License Administrator
It's nice to see them going straight into Mac OS X with this version.

note the use of native interface builder upside-down tabs at the bottom.

The Quark color panel is better than Apple's.
That might be one reason.
Or, perhaps its because it's obviously not done yet.
But probably just because Quark's color panel is better than Apple's.

Trust me - it's going to be awful.
