I registered to tell you that I work at Target and I have known about this since Friday. The store managers got e-mails alerting us of some big announcement on Wednesday. We won't know what it is till tomorrow.

Any proof with an e-mail, fax, or other incriminating evidence?

nope, sorry, I wasn't suppose to read the e-mail. Although, when the iPhone came out, we got a guide on how to handle an iPhone launch at Target.

I expect Jobs to announce they have already sold a million iPhones (if not, APPL will probably plunge back to the 120s, if more units, who knows?). Maybe a new iPhone with more memory, at a premium price, of course. And a software update soon, maybe as soon as noon Wednesday: custom ringtones at the least, possibly voice dialing (digits at a minimum). If a video iPod is introduced that can download tunes from the iTunes store directly (i. e. runs iTunes as a native ap), then I'd expect the same capability to be added to iPhone.

What I don't expect to be announced is a price drop for iPhones: I think they were priced so as to allow a broad range of price points for the iPods, including a new series to be introduced on Wednesday.

No. Maybe he meant iPod... then again, there's no proof that "he" is a real Target employee...

Whether you believe me or not, I do work for Target and I did mean iPhone, not iPod. Target would not tell us to staff extra people in electronics for 4 days for the release of a new iPod. The e-mail also said that we are the first retailer to be carrying the item. So that also rules out the iPod. It might not even be an Apple product at all but our best guess is the iPhone.

I think he implied "a guide in the event of an iPhone launch at Target" which is what he suspects will happen tomorrow.

Oops.... just saw his reply. Sorry.

Okay so it is 22.45 Scotland time. I am currently a few hours away from the revealing of the next ipod, which I have been waiting for, for almost a year. I have scoured the internet for various hints and leaks as to what the new ipod will have to offer.

I am in a particularly unique position to be in, as the new ipod (video) will be shown to be in a matter of hours (by Steve Jobs - live on line (well, sort of) ).

As a great admirer of appleinsider, who I believe they post the most credible insight into apple related news and show great insight as to future products, without the temptation to be over-excited about reporting unsubstantiated hype of anticipated Apple gear, I believe that Apple insider has it right on a few points

    1. There will be a new video ipod

    2. It will have the widescreen video aspect - larger screen

    3. The screen will be a touch screen

Going out on a limb, it suggests it will have WIFI.

What I am havering on about here, is that in a few hours, the above speculation will be proven, or proven wrong.

My, my, we do live in exciting times.

Right so anyway, I'll let you boys carry on with the conversation and avoid being distracted by my insight on the video ipod matter.

PS - I am directly focusing on the Video ipod by the way - couldn't care if they bring out a Volkswagen iPhone nano with central locking - just looking for a new ipod video.

Come on Steve Jobs, don't let us down - listen to what the consummer wants!

I work for Target and have also known about this too, however they didn't hire anyone new. I'm going to say its the iPod(s) that will be released to Target. Our iPod supply is running dry and also when you scan the price label, the item comes up listed as "Discontinued" This is for the nano and the full size iPod, but not for the shuffles.
