If my sales experience is standard, then the store isn't selling any machines.
Your experience is far from standard. Apple Retail Stores sell 55 machines a day, per store. And the vast majority of the buyers who show up ready to buy do not know Leopard from Shinola. More than 50% of buyers are first-time Mac users.
COO Tim Cook said there was no pause 2 years ago for Tiger. They track these things daily - if they saw a pause they would do something. They also record the reasons that buyers don't buy. If Leopard was on the top of that list, there would be a Leopard special announced.
If Apple cared, the issue of drawing the line is easy to solve. Just get a sliding scale. If Leopard comes out in October, then those who bought in October get free. Those in September get a $75 discount and so forth.
I'm not doing anything. However, my enthusiasm for moving from Windows to a Mac isn't growing any. I need to get this thing done soon and if Leopard isn't out, somewhat strangely, I may just stick to Windows. The idea of spending real money on a Windows box isn't a thrilling thought, but I can do a significant upgrade on the cheap as I can assemble my own, buy a refurb 24" monitor for maybe $400 and get away with my current drives. Total cost will be about $1k to me max. I'll get 4X the performance of my 4 year old box now.
I'd really like to go Mac for a variety of reasons including my being politically annoyed at MSFT but I'm not willing to be abused for my choice either.
That would be SLIGHTLY reasonable, except then the question is, where do you draw the line? What about people who bought it Sept 30?
But more importantly, you probably knew about Leopard when you purchased your computer. And you probably COULD have waited if you really wanted to.
i actually was in diar need of a computer. My dell died, the wireless usb device i had that i was using with my parents old computer fried, and i was limited to the times i could use my parents new computer. I have quizes online for college and i had essays to write and what not so i needed the computer basically as soon as possible.

If you had to manage finances as complex as Apple has, you would not be saying the same thing. A sliding scale would be RIDICULOUS in terms of keeping track of in financing. Get real, it's business, not milk and cookies.
Well, if you bought an early iPhone you can take that nifty $100 credit and get leopard at a significantly reduced price. Just tell yourself Steve "did the right thing"
Or, like me you can watch the stock blow through $160 and sit contented.

You got a free OS. It's 10.4. Now either buy the product or keep using Tiger. If you don't like then install Linux and update freely for life.

i'm failing to see what this has to do with either destiny's child OR en vogue...
