No it is not. 3D work is just as much CPU bound and likely more than GPU bound. Truth be told you really have to have both along with solid GPU drivers for precise work. If I'm running something like Modo I'd rather have multiple cores and an avg GPU vs. a kickass GPU and a single core computer.

That is true but your pointing a finger at something that doesn't exist in this conversation and making it an issue. No one was ever making it sound like the CPU was nearly useless in 3D
