Where in the OS X install is there a classic option? You've lost me.. The classic option is always there in the OS, but without an OS9 partition it's useless.

Remove the Desktop files too, and you're in the clear. My system is happier and cleaner without the devil OS9!

OS X isn't a patch over the older stuff like, say, Windows 95 was. It's an entirely separate operating system. OS 9 is also an entirely separate operating system. What the "Classic" application does is launch OS 9 within its own confines (like Virtual PC does), so that you can run old applications with it.
Don't have any old software? Throw out your OS 9 system folder like so much deadwood, and never run the "Classic" application. Voila.

If I didn't use Aimster in Classic then I would. Until there's a good file sharing software for OS X (so I can steal music) I won't get rid of Classic.

Why not just use AudioGalaxy? You know, there is a way to easily download blocked songs. The only bad part is that you cannot choose a bit rate, but most of them come back at 128 which is OK since it is gratis anyway.
And yes, I DO still buy music...just bought Led Zeppelin: The Complete Studio Recordings.
Well, I'm almost at that point. Classic is feeling a bit like an appendix now. I'm only waiting for Norton Utilities ( got the beta already ) and Unreal Tournament and I really won't have much reason to go there. Since Office and Quicken came out for X Classic has been a place I just don't go. Well, there is Game Ranger which seems to be taking forever. Since most of the games I have work in X it's a moot point. But, things will really be back to normal when that app. comes out for X.
Ironically enough, the only tether I have to OS 9 is AppleWorks: Specifically, the installer. It seems to be a problem with InstallerVISE, so it has affected the installation of other apps as well (including the Canvas 8 beta, but fortunately not the final). Has anyone tried booting into OS 9 from a CD and running the AppleWorks installer to patch the OS X version?
Unfortunately, all of the installers for OS X have serious problems. That's something that I hope will be fixed soon.

Many cops aren't armed in Britain, Britain has a much lower incidence of gun related crimes thatn the US does.
Canada has way sticter gun laws than the United States, Canada has a much lower incedence of gun related crimes than the US does.
Be happy, you can leave your gun laden hell hole of a country , can come to a nice country where you are much less likely to get shot, your neighbor Canada. I left it 43 years ago, and never looked back.

You mean, OS X wasn't SUPPOSED to come with a gun and a box of ammo? Then why did mine come.....? What the?
Music software has been very slow in coming for OS X. I am still waiting for Sibelius 2.0 (a music notation progrram) so I can run it in X. It's annoying now because I have to reboot into 9 to use the current version Sib. 1.4 (Classic mode doesn't work because it doesn't support OMS).
Once Sib 2 comes out I won't need Classic anymore. I should mention that my MIDI interface (Midiman) already has OSX drivers.

Are you saying that you've deleted OS 9 completely from your Mac and OS X still works? (thud! fell on my ass again!)
I was under the impression that OS X needed OS 9 to work? (WHAM! GODDAMNED COFFEE TABLE!)

Remove the OS9 System Folder
Remove the Desktop DB and Desktop DF files
Remove the Applications (OS 9) folder
Clear out any Classic apps you have have scattered about.
All done.

Try getting rid of all of the OS 9 files. You'll probably be better off re-initializing the drive.

interesting typo, fits well with the product

Then it installed 10.1, but of course 9 is on another CD, which I never installed. So that's one way to do install X without 9.

Yep, and trashed it after it wouldn't do anything.
