I think you're talking to the wrong people in this forum. Why don't you moan that instead of $500 Dells, we buy $1200 Macs and think we've won? Better technology costs more.

Of course, now that they have solidified their 'lead', Sony will be rolling on to the more restrictive levels of DRM and adding more 'features', thus obsoleting even more players and we'll still think we, the consumers, have won.

Oh, brother, here we go again. For the zillionth time, Sony does not control the direction of Blu-ray all by itself. There's a little thing called the Blu-Ray Disc Association, which dictates the Blu-ray standard. Sony is only one of 18 companies on the board of directors, along with all the major computer manufacturers and most of the top consumer electronics companies. And there are about 130 other companies more in the association. So shut the hell up about Sony this, Sony that until you know what you're talking about. Any time somebody starts spouting off about Sony ruling BD, everybody instantly knows they are nothing but Sony haters who don't know the first thing about Blu-ray other than it's affiliated with Sony.

Agreed. Even then, DVDs are such an antiquated, and corrupt format. By end of this year or next, you'll see, BluRays will be just as antiquated and corrupt (literally and metaphorically).

I am perfectly willing to pay US$15 (say local currency about up to $40) for a 1080p H.264 DRM-free quality movie (that means NO AliensVsPredator). Bonus points if it is "insured" for up to 5 years, that is, I can re-download if I lose my copy or if my hard disk or high-capacity-optical disk gets damaged.

Until then, I will try not to spend any more cash on DVDs or even get started with BluRay.

I don't buy pirated DVDs anymore. Sharing(local friends, not online) a legal copy, I rarely do that even.

The stupidest thing still going on is when you buy a legitimate DVD and it says "Don't steal movies or music!!". Obviously online or physical pirated DVDs will have all this rubbish stripped out.

That's like being a kid, finding a wallet full of cash, returning it to the owner, and then getting smacked hard on the butt while he/she says, "You bad boy! Don't steal!!". W.T.F.

    Thanks a lot, motherf*r.
