I don't know if that's fair, everyone seems to be attacking this guy for nothing. All he ever said was that all the stores in his area were sold out of MBAs and that he thinks it might be hit, he entitled to his opinion and everyone just jumped on him. Just because they weren't using name calling doesn't mean they weren't harsh as well.
The assistant manager at my nearest Apple Store said just a few days ago that the Air was sold out in Japan and he believed world wide (most people who pre-ordered have received their machines, but not all, meaning the pre-orders out-numbered Apple's anticipated sales level for the first run); this does not mean that every single store that received stock is sold out but rather that there is no available stock for delivery to shops. I do not think he was lying because we were discussing a completely different matter of serious note (see threads about Apple Japan). His store did not have any stock and he did not expect any for another week or more, but did say sometimes shipments arrived days after memos suggesting delays.
Three huge chain stores in Japan also have sold out (spoke directly to the local managers of all three).
At every location, they knew I already had my MBA and thus was not in the market for another one (not yet, at least) so I don't think they were pulling sales routines on me.
I am willing to give mdotdubz the benefit of the doubt on this one, because his info jives with that which I have received and can deduce from the Net.

The MBA is currently ranked #1 under Mac sales at the Apple Store in:
Japan, the US, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland,
Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, the UK.
So, is this true, or is Apple just listing them as #1 so as to attract more people to buy them? If the latter were true, though, they would likely list them as #1 in every country, but they don't.
If it is true, either they are selling lots of them or they aren't selling many Macs nor Mac related products at all; the former is most likely closer to the truth.
Most online Apple stores are showing shipping in 7-10 days, meaning they are finally catching up with demand.
I think that a year from now the MBA will have established itself as the best selling ultra portable on the market.

Yes he was entitled to his opinion as each person were entitled to theirs. Just because he was disagreeing with multiple users didn't give him the right to start calling us names, and none of us shot back and called him a name (other than myself referring to him as a genius after calling me an idiot to make a point of irony) I've read the forum rules, and sometimes I go pretty far, but I've never had to have a post modified yet. (that I can remember) If you don't want to play nice - don't! But don't break the forum rules either.
I get my ass jumped on in here on a daily basis, but I don't resort to name calling, but I can see why it's not allowed. If you start letting users belittle each other on that level this wont be as fun a place to come anymore. And honestly. We are here to discuss, debate, and sometimes argue points. Even the arguing can be a lot of fun. And that was post 5000 baby. (but it's actually well over 7000 if you include all the times they lost all our data and we all started at 0 again, back in the day)

No, all he said was that the posters in this thread were "idiots", he was warned for that, and then he said the posters were "losers."
If people cannot understand the simple concept of what a personal attack is, as compared to attacking an idea, opinion, concept, etc., then they aren't able to participate here under the rules.
He even said something about other people using profanities. Profanities are allowed; calling people names is not.
If he disagrees with what others are saying, all he has to do is say he disagrees.
He also can say anything or any person is stupid, an idiot, or a loser, even a fucking loser or a fucking asshole, as long as it is not one of the people in the discussion or otherwise a poster on this website.
I do not lock threads, and I do not worry too much about some off-topic diversions in threads.
But we cannot have name-calling tolerated here, as lurkers who see that are going to be very hesitant to sign up and post their opinions or questions or assistance.

I must be reading a completely different thread. All I seen was this guy launching personal attacks and firing aways with verbal assaults. If anything I think the mods were conservative in their efforts and the op pretty much took a lumber axe and chopped his own head off. I commend the moderators on their valiant effort to stop this verbal jousting that can occur.

Now you I like already. I agree with every word of that.
I guess it was because I read the modified thread, because he didn't seem to come down harder than anyone else came down on him. But he did call people losers that I can't understand being against the rules.

It has nothing to do with who is "coming down harder." Argue as hard as you wish. But you cannot cast apersions on a person's personal characteristics such as intelligence, personality, knowledge, or even attitude by calling names. You can say "I don't think your attitude is appropriate here." You cannot say "You are an asshole."
Repeat to yourself: name-calling, name-calling, name-calling. Not allowed, not allowed, not allowed
At a forum I mod, Rule #1 is respect and is the most enforced rule. If you cannot respect fellow members at all times then you will find yourself on an enforced vacation. Like lundy said, attack the idea, not the individual.

As someone who was initially disappointed with the MacBook Air (no FireWire?!?!?!?) but also an AAPL shareholder I am glad sales seem to be above expectations.

If you asked just a few days ago about the MBA, I would have said that it nice Mac but I would spend a few dollars more and go with a MBP. Well l got to use a MBA for the last two days and I impressed. I will be buying a new note book in the next few months. Last week is was 100% MBP 0% MBA, today it is 50/50. You MBA haters I am sorry to say this product rocks.
Number 1 my ass, I just don't believe that. There's no way. They are lying, plain as.
One of the more cogent rebuttals ever -- works for all occasions:
The Earth is round. Nope... "they are lying!"
The Wright Brothers flew. "They are lying."
Man landed on the moon. Uh-uh... "they are lying."
2 + 2 = 4 "They are lying."
It's so convincing.
And think how it would work in court if you were to get hauled in and the prosecutor lays out all the evidence for beating Joe Torre into unconsciousness in the middle of Dodger Stadium with a speckled hen on a sold-out opening day in front of 50,000 fans and everyone watching on television? I'm sorry your honor, but "they are lying."
Best rebuttal ever.
Even better than Steve Martin's two simple words: "I forgot."

I have seen it as high as #3 on Amazon, higher than the other Apple notebooks. It is #12 now (below the other apple notebooks), but it is also sold out evidently so it should be dropping due to temporary zero sales.
From the comment section, people are struggling to find one:
"Does anyone know the actual time it takes to get one of these Airbooks shipped? They are saying 1-3 weeks but that seems to fluctuate to "Hurry only 1 left in stock"... The Amazon helpline in India can't seem to say when... they tell me to buy from an affiliate but I want to buy from Amazon."

Ok, so I've been playing with my mother's Macbook configuring it for her... and I've got to say: The MBA totally rocks, it even makes the tiny Macbook seem huge and clunky!
Though I like the Macbook, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the MBA. And I thought it was dumb when I first saw the announcement. This is Apples (& the industries) slickest portable yet, even more so than the gold standards of the Macbook & MBP.
I'm not surprised its #1 and selling well. You have to play with one yourself to believe it. The regular Macbook feels like a brick after the MBA! The form factor, design, and performance are really great on this machine. It really feels like your part of the future or something. Whens the last time you said that about a Sony or a Dell?
