How to use "Epson Scan to File" Beta to work with Canons "Canon ScanGear CS-U 6,2" Beta :
I have locked for a way to scan with my Canon 1240 without using Word or PowerPoint in X. With the current Canon beta drivers I have only managed with Word X. I downloaded the Epson release to see if "Epson Scan to File" was TWAIN based which would mean that it could work with the Canon drivers.
I downloaded the drivers for the 1240 Epson by chance as my Canon is also named 1240. I do not think it makes any difference as I would not use the TWAIN driver itself but the "scan to file" utility.
Installed the program as well as the twain drivers. Went to /Library/Application Support/TWAIN/TWAIN Data Sources/ and renamed the "ScanGear CS-U 6.2" to "EPSON TWAIN 5".
Now I can scan by launching "Epson Scan to File" without having to use any other application.
The scan results are not so good as in e.g. PowerPoint ! There seems to be a raster in the
pictures which I can not get rid of by changing the quality or filetype !
I'm sorry JoG, maybe its just my head that is a bit fried right now, but I didnt really understand what you did.
Regarding VueScan, if you put the user interface to Advanced, you have an incredible amount of options. I dont even know what half of them do.
Indeed, its not the most userfriendly software, especially in Advanced mode, but, it gets the job done.
One thing I can't understand, you can't select output scanning resolution to lower than 100dpi. How the heck (besides doing it manually in GC or PS or any graphics app) am I supposed to select 72dpi (screen resolution)? This seems retarded.
Also, with Graphic Converter, when I select TWAIN ACquire, I see the Canoscan greyed out and cannot select it. Dammit.

VueScan is both a set of drivers *and* a piece of scanning software.

Thanks for clearing that one up, ColorClassicG4.
