The RJ type connector is on it's way out. Look at how all the new type connectors are all clasp-less or screw-less. The new gen connectors: USB, Firewire, HDMI, Display port.
The old gen connectors: RJ11, RJ45, VGA/DVI, PC serial and parallel.
Network connections will be replaced with all wireless connection in the coming years.
I don't think Firewire is a dead standard. Thats an oxymoron I believe anyway. I pick Firewire for DVD burners or Blu-Ray burners if someone will make one, and for hard drives every time... It's nice to have two buses and two standards. I like usb for keyboards, tablets, mice, flash drives, joysticks, and etc... I don't like it for iPods but for iPhone it's cool, but those are just for that pc market share anyway...

No, they will not.
Agreed. Wireless is not nearly as reliable as wired.

And that's why cell phones will never take off.
Yeah and cell phone networks will never be as fast as broadband.
RF frequencies aren't shielded from interference. It's too easy to create a magnetic flux and block out that signal.
Wired/shielded hardlines will always be lit and are the backbone of the entire collection of global/localized networks.
And that's why cell phones will never take off.
How does your wireless router get its connection?

I think that network backbones are going to rely on hard lines for some time yet, but as an end-user technology, yeah, wireless is the future.

There are ample reasons listed in earlier posts to explain why this will not happen.
No, it won't matter. Firewire is a dead standard.
