...What happened?

Where is the Bill O'Reilly of yesteryear? A man of calm composure and civility?

A man of...oh, who am I kidding.

Your link appears to be broken, or at least references a site that's buggy.

Moreover, what the point? Foaming-at-the-mouth liberals love to hate O'Reilly, but I can't see what the fuss is about. His identity right now, more than anything else, is "the guy liberals love to hate." Maybe if you stopped devoting so much of your time to him other people would, too.

Jesus, don't go defending him...makes you low as he is.

Try here. I'm not making any point, just laughs.

I have the right to laugh at him, don't I? Thought I'd share.

You must be great at parties.

    Bill O'Reilly, Big Pimpin'

MARCH 1--The year was 1975 and Bill O'Reilly was a broadcast TV rookie itching to move to a larger market from Scranton, Pennsylvania. O'Reilly, then 26, worked as the "Action Consumer" troubleshooter for WNEP, the ABC affiliate, and was seeking to decamp to Atlanta or Miami. He apparently had outgrown the Action 16 news team, which operated from offices at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton airport.

That video is amusing, but I'll give him credit for nailing it on the live take.

As for defending O'Reilly, the problem I have is that I just don't see what the big deal is. He's a conservative editorialist: big fucking deal. There are spazzes on the right, spazzes on the left, sleazeballs on the right, sleazeballs on the left. If there's one thing I know for certain, it's that character seems to be independent of political sway. On that note, I'm just not bothered by O'Reilly.

He's all of the above, plus a savvy media personality who knows how to use demagoguery to milk a demographic.

Indeed, but it can be great entertainment. At least that's what most people should get out of it. Informed discussion (not "passionate") be damned.

Ug. If that studio Phil and Bill were in had spontaneously combusted (with them in it), I would have had a champagne party. What a bunch of hot air; you don't usually see a bigger nutter than Bill on "The Factor." If I were Bill, I would have let Phil go for a while, only to slip in an "are you done" while he paused for breath. I think his head might have exploded.

    Bill is not that clever.

The true irony is that so many take O'Reilly seriously and I find him an entertaining (yet aggravating) idiot. Yet when I want entertainment I seem to find that I receive more information and rational discussion from someone who basically is there to entertain me.

Strange paradox. John Stewart that is. Clever man.

You can have an interview with someone whom you politically disagree with, and not shout over them and turn off their microphones or resort to fallacious attacks.
