Alright scadboy, I'll cut you some slack 'cause I can see you're the sensitive type. Check your PM.

well howdy! just had to register and log in to say: scadboy and matsu are not having a "tiff". Matsu, you are in no postition to let anybody slide. You are a homophobic dick-head, and I think that scadboy has been remarkably easy going about the whole thing (well, maybe the last post is a teensy bit on the pissed off side...). This "we're all mac-boys just kiddin' around, why would anybody get touchy, lighten up" stuff just doesn't cut it. In fact, it's appalling. I've read thru Matsu's posts, and his "humor", as anybody that has endured this kind of thing can attest, is right of the level of the kind of pig-eyed son-of-a-bitch that's getting ready for some good old fashioned queer bashing. That kind of leaning in close and saying "hey, I hear your kind wear dresses on mother's day, is that right, hyuh, did I hear right?" If Matsu was favoring us with his ignorant notions about blacks or asians he would be run off as the bigot he is, but somehow his learing asides about, well, not just gays in the abstract but specific people who are posting in this forum, should really be unacceptable. Yeah, I know, I'm new and it's not my place to say and Matsu's a great guy and who the hell do I think I am. I think I am a person who knows ugliness when he sees it.

Personally, I'm saddened to see an thread that was sort of interesting degrade into this mess, but I agree. Glad you registered to voice your opinion.

scadboy, way to go taking the shit that matsu is dealing. Matsu, don't ever use n***** unless you want your ass kicked by someone (just a tip, not a threat, I'm not the ass-kicking type). As far as entitlement goes: whatever a discriminated group decides on, is what goes. You don't decide that for them. Sorry, Mr. Man. Go on with your angry (presumably white) self.

[quote]Firstly, I've seen a few interviews with Larry Ellison, including an hour long special on CNN some time ago, and though I don't know the man personally, he strikes me as more than a little queer...<hr></blockquote>

Come to think of it, Larry does sport that George Michael beard. Hmmm... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

I knew that Avid sold pumped-up PowerMacs (and WinTel towers) and I knew that they offered higher-end integrated systems, but how would racks fit in? Are Avid going to stuff them with PCI cards and sell them as Avid systems, or are Avid systems going to exploit Apple racks right out of the box? Something in between?

    Spill it, Bodhi. </strong><hr></blockquote>

If you have multiple Avid workstations, you also need vast amounts of storage, media management facilities, collaboration utilities, and very, very fast networks are helpful.

    We currently use Avid's <a href="http://www.avid.com/products/unitymedianet/"; target="_blank">Unity MediaNet</a> on a fibre channel network.

A shit head? Quite possibly. My head has over the years been filled with a lot of shit, I wish it hadn't been, but it's quite pointless to try and unfill it now. Homophobic? I think not. I do, however, when I notice these little politics of linguistic exclusion, keep a record of who's entitled to say what. Just to see if it's consistent -- Which it usually isn't.

<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=000887"; target="_blank">Rosie</a> is a disenfranchised, yet otherwise heterosexual, woman (just like Anne Heche was) -- lesbian through frustration/protest.

<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=000910"; target="_blank">Fags</a>, was written in a spirit of humor, in criticism of bigotry, and in the vein of some other infamous threads, ie. Mormons, I don't like 'em. And later followed, in protest, with Christians, I don't like 'em

<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=000648"; target="_blank">Valentine's Day</a> was a legitimate question considering homosexuality's overtly hedonistic cultural (stereotypical???) component. It's also the closest thing to gay pride day (whether people realize it or not) so I don't how you can look at questions on the subject as anything other than legitimate.

Scat to scad to man-love is pretty weak, but I'm entitled to a brain fart now and again.

What I don't see is why (in this anonymous place) we have to pussy-foot around some topics (even when they've nothing to do with the thread) just because of a politics of linguistic/ideological privledge. For all you know, I might be a black homosexual.

Two of the threads mentioned (Rosie and fags) have nothing to do with you (scadboy). Of the three that do, except for the one about your name, the other two are legit questions/points. Even the very first is not more flack than anybody on these forums ever got over meaningless nonsense. It's no more insulting, if unfortunately, no more intelligent, than the average dick joke. And I am not obligated to be intelligent.

It is interesting to me that 'sucking dick' could be used as a kind of insult from the mouth of a homosexual. I should think this would be a good thing? Awww, you do care. Here I thought you didn't want me to join the club. See linguistic privledge noted above. If I told you to go suck a dick that might, depending on the dick, be a good thing, yet even then, it will be construed as intentionally derogatory because it doesn't come from within the group. You, OTOH, may freely wield both the derogatory and carnal sense just because you belong.

I'm not a fan of this politics, and will pick upon it whether it's race, religion, gender... no matter. I have no problem with homos, I like them as much as anybody else but, if UBB gives any indication, they don't like me. Too bad, 'cause with my luck with women a bi-friendly PR might be the best policy -- like prison, or China?

God, can you people please keep this discussion out of the boards? You guys have some things to work out, and I don't think this thread, or this forum, is the place to do so.

Well this is more than just server hardware right?

    OK OK, back on topic.

No, there won't be any other hardware, but there may be some neat new software tricks. Possibly, but not likely, we might see some corresponding hardware bumps, but I don't think so.

Just servers and some neat software functionality for them.

Just remember, there are a lot of ex-Sun guys at Apple who understand networked computing. With the best-selling UNIX desktop platform ever, Apple is going to need a back-end server to talk to, their own bacl-end servers. And this also means that Cocoa software will need better support for distributed objects than PDO. It also means they need an EOF like product again and a reliable distributed network messaging system. This will parlay into Apple's entrance into a more enterprise like environment above and beyond the iApp and digital hub strategy. Also look for enhanced security and all the old Solaris like server-side requirements.

I think this will be the beginning of a long line of announcements from Apple.

(Sun, Linux and NeXT developers are eyeing OSX and Cocoa development. That is the real strenght from a developers point of view in my opinion)
