[quote]...got quite excited about the possibility of rage pro support under 10.1.5 ... and I was wondering if someone could confirm or deny the claim.

well, its an easy way for Apple not to get sued seeing that they claimed that everything that has a G3 (except the original PB G3) would be FULLY supported. Its too bad to see that it probably took a lawsuit for them to get their asses in gear.
Im guessing the Rev A iMac would be supported if the graphics chip is upped to 6MB from the stock 2.
In reagrds to beta testing / pirating.. if some of us didnt do it, there would little point to this community dontcha think??? Doy.
Anyway, thats also why the first thing I did with my iBook is create a 2GB partition for beta testing purposes. Thats where I have Jag installed.
Man, I went back to it today for some meddling and I love it. I really cant wait for Jag to be out and fully optimized. Its really been ironed out.. I just hope the rest gets done well too.
SLOTH: Apparently you werent around a year or so ago when titles of some posts were labeled as CONFIRMED all the time... and sometimes it was total crapola. I think it was MichaelM who started that. What happened to him? I see some of his Icon sets sometimes.. nice stuff.
In regards to Snappier remarks... its a looong standing joke since Public Beta basically. Every little update, no matter how insignificant, would seem 'spiffier'. Some people got pissed off at this remark, others just laughed along with it. So, now its just standard to say, no matter what update it is for OS X, that it feels Snappier
Fluffy, where did you hear 10.1.5 will have "minimal 2D acceleration"?? That sounds like a Meaderism to me. Let's suppose for a second that Apple was going to include some kind of minor 2D acceleration. If it was really minimal in scope, why would they even tell anyone / describe it as a feature? What's the benefit of letting someone know 2D rendering will be only slightly improved on some machines?
10.1.5 is about anti-aliased text and improved 3rd party device support - that's it.
As for Maury, he's been yapping again about IE and how the update for the same is holding back Apple. This makes me think he's really not much of a useful source at all. MS has given no signals at all that an IE update is imminent. Meanwhile, a much bigger happening (that they'd be more likely to keep quiet) - SR1 for Office v.X - has not only been acknowledged but given a specific time frame.
More and more I think RAILhead man pulls stuff out of places like this and repurposes it as if he has some kind of connection to Apple....
Fluffy, where did you hear 10.1.5 will have "minimal 2D acceleration"??

Well, I described it as minimal because I'm really not expecting much from it; Apple doesn't describe it that way. I've heard that this might be part of the Read Me from the 5S60 build:
Application Improvements:
- Increased stability of Mail and Sherlock.
- Emails are properly retained when rebuilding the Draft mailbox.
- Support for 2D and QuickTime hardware acceleration for Rage Pro.
- Updated Carbon applications can use Quartz anti-aliasing technology for high quality text display.
But I wouldn't know how accurate it is, because I don't have the build.
Are we going to have to wait all damn summer for a release of OS X for portables!? Because battery in OS X is laughable, and the Energy Saver, well, isn't there. These kind of things can't wait. Screw Rage Pros. They said they'd do it, so they have to I suppose, but I guess they'll keep their trap shut on stuff like that for a while!
It's getting so late now that I wonder if Apple are going to release 10.1.5 at all. It seems that the closer we get to MWNY the less leikely that we will see anything until 10.2
It'll happen. Mac BU would get serious egg on their face if they turned around now and said "Oh, we're going to wait another 6 weeks." Kevin Browne himself has come right out and said late May or early June on two occasions. You don't back down from that.
Kevin Browne himself has come right out and said late May or early June on two occasions. You don't back down from that.

Moogs: Did he say that during that recent presentation, or in that interview with MacCentral? When saying "late may or early June", was he talking about IE or Office X SR1? A link to Browne's comments would be helpful.
Escher, if I remember correctly, he talked about this both in an interview with MC, and in a MS press event they held a month or so ago. If you go to Mactopia you can find the transcript pretty easily. He mostly talks about MS' relationship with Apple, and about .NET.
But in both instances the "late May, early June" thing was in reference to the SR1 update for Office v.X. He made that very clear. In the press event, he did talk a little bit about IE, saying it was nowhere near where they wanted it to be and to expect a major update sometime later this year. The way I read it, he made it fairly clear a new version of IE was a ways off, but that the Office update was very close.
As for laughing at my comments (kcmac), why on EARTH would Kevin Browne raise expectations like that when no one was pressuring him to do so? Especially if there was a good chance SR1 wouldn't be released until later in the summer? Why even bring it up??
MS owns the office productivity market, their OS X products are out, and they're good / only six months old. There was ZERO pressure for Browne to make a statement of any kind about updating Office. At the time, it was a big surprise to most observers that he even brought it up, because frankly, no one was asking.
Unless Kevin Browne thought it would be fun to put himself in a position to lose some credibility just for the hell of it, the only logical reason he'd make a formal announcement to the press is because he is confident it's going to happen when he says it's going to happen, OK?

Nothin personal Moogs.
I'm from Missouri. I'll believe it when I see it, that's all.
It's not like MS has the greatest record after all regarding schedules. Sure Mac BU is a different animal, but it's still MS. They always seem to be a little behind, making us suffer. (Drivers just released for their keyboards, mouse, etc. Works only up to OS X v. 10.1.2. Yah, that's what I'm talking about.)
How long has IE been stuck at the same version? Same for office. They're just playin with us. Now they seem to be affecting the release of 10.1.5.
I've downloaded 5S53 and there is no mention of rage pro graphics acceleration. Don't believe they would magically insert it in the space of 7 builds...
I don't know why people bother with this kind of bogus crap.
hmmm... sure, turn everything off in EV Nova and you have a very boring game.
Aquatik, yes, Jaguar is NOTICABLY faster than 10.1.4 on my iBook 14 with 384MB ram. If this DP version is anything to go by (as in it will just get faster) then we may actually have a usable computer shortly!
In any case, I think I am going to sell this 14inch and get a brand new 12inch with 640MB ram and 30 or 40GB HD. Jeez, Apple is DAMN expensive for Ram! Gonna get a stock 128 and buy my own... or just buy it from local store again. The 16MB Radeon and 700Mhz Sahara chip make the new iBooks MUCH more interesting. Look decent enough for some good gaming while not needing to dish out a few thousand dollars more for a 'fragile' TiBook.
Hoooray for Jaguar... it friggen rules. Just get those damn Labels in there... grrrr

Same for 10.1.4.
10.1.4 doesn't play nice with Office X either, it's less stable.
