Quartz text smoothing for Carbon Apps
You can doit the hard way, or just download this nifty little utility right here.
I downloaded it, it works without a hitch and its is a well written utility. I'd download it!
It does require 10.1.5 of course...

I hope it doesn't mess up Photoshop or other Adobe apps though...if it does I will have to add them to the list.

Very pretty. Any thoughts on how much this might slow things down - if at all?

I haven't noticed any noticable slowdown of any applications using my new iMac. Infact, MSN 3.0 actually sped up. Weird as it may be
IE never looked so good.

You mean Mozilla 1.0 never looked so good
Now, if only they could release a haxie that makes Mozilla's UI not suck...
Just apply this theme to Mozilla and you will wet your pants:
http://140.107.24.64/mozilla/navzilla/
Just apply this theme to Mozilla and you will wet your pants:

You missed my point.
I know that there are themes for Mozilla -- that one is a direct rip-off of Chimera. Themes are nice, but they do not affect how the UI *works* (or, well, doesn't work ). Will that theme change the fact that I have to sit idle by for two seconds whenever I want a new window or open the prefs? Or does that theme change the fact that Mozilla still doesn't properly use native widgets? Or a native toolbar? Or native textbox controls?
I could go on, but I won't. Chimera solves a lot of Mozilla's UI problems, but still isn't on par with OmniWeb for UI "correctness" yet, IMNSHO.

Agreed. It's little touches in OW like the toolbar buttons that look like they were designed by Apple themselves, the rounded address field, etc... which makes Chimera (even it it's latest incarnation) look like a cheap rip-off. How difficult would it be for them to implement some of those little superficial touches? It would, IMO, go a long way towards integrating the Chimera experience with OS X as well as OW's is.
So, in summary,
Can they please fix the flippin' icons?

OMFG I'm droolling over the keyboard using mozilla now with Silk enabled!
Just a little tid-bit - iCab 2.8 supports Quartz without Silk.

I prefer Pinstripe to Navzilla - it's based on modern instead of classic (like Navzilla is).

What? No it's not. Pinstripe is based on Classic -- that's why it uses the *cough* "native" *cough* widgets and scroll bars.

What I meant was that pinstripe looks like modern meets aqua (no fugly boxes around buttons etc), even if it is based on classic.

Also, it's cool that it works instantly--I don't have to restart Internet Explorer, it's already working .
Also, when someone signs off it screws that up.
And if you enter in broken text, the main part of the window gets screwed up for half a second.
------------
Alright, AIM finally just crashes and now crashes whenever I send text under Silk. Also, that little exclude thing... doesn't do anything, AIM still shows pretty fonts and still crashes once it shows them.

AOL Instant messenger screws up w/ it...

What? You mean people still use that old clunker?
AOL Instant messenger screws up w/ it... the box where you type text isn't very pretty if you press the space bar.

Yes, I found the exact same experience with AIM while using Silk. I get one IM off, a reply, and then it crashes. After a couple of such crashes, my preferences were zapped, and I had to enter all my information and settings. The input was all messed up just as you described in your post. I tried moving the preference panel to the global area (I originally installed it in my user name, but since I have the only user name on this machine, I figured why not try it), but I still expeience the same behavior. It makes AIM worthless (more worthless than it already is...). Any ideas why this application seems to be the only one effected?
Actually, I have just found, also, that iTunes fails after a restart with Silk installed on my machine. However, it works fine once I restart the application. Anyone else experiencing this problem also?
Feedback would be nice...
