Too bad that a new PDA/Smartphone plan from Verizon costs $79.99 for:

    450 Anytime minutes

    Data Access for Email

    Unlimited In Calling

    Unlimited Night and Weekend Minutes

    ...

and hey look. No included texting.

The first bundled package is $99.99 for unlimited texting and 450 mins.

Oh hey...it seems that the iPhone 3G plans will give you 450 mins, Visual VoiceMail (you only get "basic voicemail" under the Verizon plan...upgrade to premium is extra), Rollover minutes (which we actually have sometimes so it's nice), 5000 night and weekend minutes + unlimited texting for....drumroll please:

    $89.99.

It is fine. And worth the $30 to upgrade from my existing family plan which is less (and different) than the current AT&T family plans.

You're the type that FSJ would ban from iPhone ownership.

You know what...you can be an asshole all you want. Have fun. I was just pointing out that it is much more expensive to own an iphone than one thinks. And yes, I compared it to my current plan. I mean imagine...the horror! Comparing the features and cost of what I have now to the new product, amazing!

The reason you cannot compare it to your current plan is because if the iPhone were available through Verizon you would still have to sign a new contract. The cost would be much the same and likely even more expensive.

No, you belittled physguy and then tried to say that Verizon was cheaper based on your current bill. You got called on it because your current bill isn't indicative of CURRENT PRICING. And that Verizon has DROPPED TEXTING FROM THEIR CURRENT PLANS.

Just as he said in the post you responded to:

Every carrier upped pricing on texting. Switch providers today and you'll pay more for texting than you do on your current contract. The iPhone has ZERO to do with this.

If you don't want to pay "$42" more a month then please...don't get an iPhone.

The cell carriers need to be broken. It needs to become like broadband internet to the home - just a flat fee of $50 (or whatever) with "net neutrality." Paying for minutes and texts, not to mention the ringtones and music and other nonsense that carriers other than AT&T seem to be even worse about, is completely ridiculous, and incompatible with the internet model that we've all gotten used to.

I'm rooting for wimax over LTE, because when people think wimax, they're going to think internet, and the expectation will be for net neutrality. But who knows if that will even matter once these vultures get hold of it.
