Okay, I get that. So you learned Word first. I haven't become familiar enough with either one yet so I'm still chewing on it. Are you an Apple or Windows user? I will be using it for various projects but not of the 'serious business' variety. I like having creative options that are easy for a beginner to use. In any case... I do appreciate you coming back and giving me the extra info.
I only have used MS Office til today, on the Windows and Mac side.
The last time I used MS Office 2008, I had to write a 40 pages paper for school, I really got annoyed by its stupid messages ("This command is not supported." - pressing any normal key like ENTER or "S") and its incompatibility with Spaces.
The last time I got so frustrated and angered was when I was still a Windows user many many years ago.
So my next papers and diploma will be written with iWork and anything else, what is not Microsoft labeled.
If you have additional papers to write, in addition to iWork (which I use for small publishing tasks) consider Mellel and Nisus Writer Pro. Both have 30 demos, and both integrate well with Bookends and Sente for bibliography work. Both can export to .doc formats if needed. I have had both for several years, and never a crash. Both have excellent styles (very different from each other, though), cross-references, etc.

PS: where can I vote? - ah, the poll is closed.
I'll see if they can be useful for my work.
