If I may be so bold in correcting the master, but the correct phrasing still should have been that he has an ambiguous sexual identity or an amibiguous sexuality. One cannot be sexually ambiguous but one can be sexually ambivalent.
Androgynous is clearly the best choice here and hard to mistake the meaning, but ambivalent would be a worse choice than ambiguous as its definition might imply the sexual orientation, or lack thereof, instead of the gender.
