I was told, at the Apple store Bethesda, MD that I had to order my 3G iPhone from the AT&T store. no options.
I placed an order 7/19/2008 - I am still waiting.

They were wrong. This happened to me at 7am on Sunday at the 5th Ave store. A quick call to 611 and they took the discount off. They said it can take up to 4-6 hours to process but it went thru a minute later.
It's possible they just didn't want to bother starting the transaction only to have their little handheld device say you were denied.

My employee discount is still intact.
I'm still waiting for the AT&T direct fulfillment.
How long? It took a friend 5-6 days
