A Columbus, Ohio police officer discharged his weapon following a smash-and-grab robbery at the Easton Town Center Apple retail store early Monday morning, the local media is reporting.

At around 1:00 a.m., several suspects wearing ski masks and hoodies rammed a Lexus into a glass door or window of the shop, shattering it, then began loading Apple merchandise into the trunk.

When Columbus PD arrived on the scene, the men rammed the black Lexus into one of the police cruisers as they attempted to escape. Officers retaliated by firing shots at the car, according to 10TV News.

The suspects were nevertheless able to evade officers and escape. NBC 4 reported that the Lexus's right side was damaged and had Illinois license plates. Anyone with information on the vehicle or suspects is encouraged to call the Columbus PD at 614-645-4545.

Wow, even crooks shows a little class when visiting an Apple Store. If this were a Best Buy or Circuit City getting buglarized, they (the crooks) would have used something like a Honda Civic.

I was managing a university Apple store in the mid 90's and thieves hide in the ceiling of the toilets when the building was closed for the night. They dropped down from the ceiling and smashed a glass windows to gain access and stole a Performa 575 and a desktop Compaq worth about $5000 all up. What they didn't get was the $20,000 of RAM I had in the back room, all with no serial #'s, ie untraceable. Nope, they took the desktops whose serial #'s were passed onto police and other resellers. Its all they could carry.

    Sheesh!
