Mysterious MacBook Pro image on German site

A German reseller by the name of T Systems is promoting 2.6GHz MacBook Pros with a product shot of a model featuring a glossy black bezel and no visible infrared port.

The specifications listed for the system are those available on Apple's existing line of MacBook Pros, and it's unlikely that the image is anything more than custom image tweaked by the reseller itself. However, it's being published for the sake of discussion.

I'm not quite able to brush this off because of the somewhat different angle of the shot, which lets you see a bit of the keyboard - dare I say chiclet? Also there's no latch button in sight. If it is a fake, it's certainly not just been "tweaked".

Edit: Also why would a subsidiary of T-Mobile be photoshopping fake Macbook Pro product shots?

Yeah I noticed the same. Very strange. But I'd actually like the new MacBook Pro to look this way. Imho the black bezel around the display is really cool, looks like in the current iMacs. Seems thinner, too.

Btw: T-Systems is not a subsidiary of T-Mobile, instead both T-Systems and T-Mobile are both subsidiaries of Deutsche Telekom (German Telecom)

Cheers. It's that T logo that gets me going.

After looking at a few other websites, it seems to be that there are a lot of people calling fake - especially because of the fact that the specs are unchanged. But it seems to me the specs being unchanged shows even more that a slip-up has occurred somewhere, and that the image is really not supposed to be there. If anything, it confirms the image.

I also had a good look around for mockups and hoaxes that resembled the picture that T-Systems posted, and while I found one that looked very similar (black bezel, no latch button), they were clearly different images. So it's not just somebody at T-Systems googling "new macbook pro" and whipping it onto the site.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new Macbook turned out to look like what we're seeing here. Wouldn't put money on it though

+1 for true image with outdated specs, with the noob webmaster explanation

By the way, the HiRes pic given in a previous post is clearly a different one (touchpad size, keyboard shape, down left corner of the upper panel, angle of the keyboard panel, etc.)

I believe that this photo is a fake. i have heard nothing about a black bezel around the MacBook display. In fact, i've even heard that it will disappear from future iMac models. (The next iteration of the iMac has already been proposed and it is even thinner than todays. Part of the new range will include a screen with an inbuilt docking station for the Air)

I believe I came across this image as part of a "MacBook Pro Mock-Up Challenge" some days ago.

I wish this was the new design but I am 99% certain this is fake.

I'm going to go for fake.

The proposed design retains the grey plastic SuperDrive mouth and seam. I'm convinced that Apple will redesign this part of the computer so that it becomes subtler ? like the slot on the current MacBook or the MacBook Air SuperDrive.

All they've done is drop an iMac screen on to an existing MacBook Pro 17" in Photoshop.

I certainly hope so. I could see the black bezel being used to hide the camera and make it look like the display goes to the edges of the screen but I don't think it's a nice look.

I've seen two-tone laptop PCs and they just look horrible:

Apple can improve it but there will be a lot of disappointment like at last year's iMac unveiling if they go the same style direction. Also if they discontinue the matte MBP models.

Given that the MBA doesn't have a black bezel, but has a glass display, I think we're safe. I would like to see a reduction in the bezel size across the MB range to match the MBP bezel.

I wonder what the chances are that Intel has given Apple a really good deal on their new SSD drives. The 80GB is $595 in batches of 1000. I wonder what discount they'll get if they order 20-30 million. Impressive benchmarks though:

160GB will be introduced next year but I imagine prices will be even higher.

Apple would have to take a big hit to put these into the Macbook line and even at that, it's still a drop to 80GB from 200-250GB in the MBP and 120-250GB in the MB line.

I think 2009 will be the year for notebook SSD. This year should see a drop to the MBA prices though. I could see them just making one model with an SSD drive and getting rid of the lower end 1.6GHz model.

Apple don't usually use screen reflections on their product shots from what I've noticed, even though they offer glass screens on most of their computers. On the product images they are usually without reflection, which makes the screen look crisp and clean. The relflection on this picture (as many have noticed) stretches out to and "around" the edge of the frame, which makes me believe it's a manipulation.

It's weird that they took so long before they removed it. That makes it feel like it is a publicity stunt trying to attract customers and fame just prior to the launch of the real new model.

That being said, I think it looks great. This goes in line with my expectations of what I thought the previous MacBook Pro update was gonna look like. I won't be surprised if the actual product looks a lot like this.
