Konami bringing big names to iPhone games

Games are the word this week, with the slew of new goodies out this week and an announcement from Konami that they will be bringing Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Dance Dance Revolution to the iPhone.

The biggest of these big three is undoubtedly Metal Gear Solid Touch - as is the hot new gaming suffix - will be set in the Metal Gear Solid 4 universe, using the touchscreen to shoot and snipe throughout eight stages, rewarding players with wallpapers and images. Metal Gear Solid Touch is set for a release in 2009.

The next hugely popular franchise comes in the form of Silent Hill: The Escape. Silent Hill is a survival horror game, which means that it's one of those games where you spend five minutes deciding on whether to walk through that slightly bloodstained door or not. The iPhone version of this game will be a first person shooter which will use both the accelerometer and touchscreen for controls (my guess would be tilting for movement, touching for shooting). For those of you who can't wait to shoot faceless nurses, this title is out later this month.

Finally, Dance Dance Revolution. Dance Dance Revolution, if you've somehow been lucky enough to have never witnessed it, is a game where you dance using some kind of peripheral (usually a mat), matching up your dancing to symbols that fly past the screen. In this version of the game, the only part of you that will be doing any dancing is your fingers, as the developers have mercifully opted to avoid making some kind of accelerometer waving-your-arms-about bonanza in preference of a more kitschy version of Tap Tap Revenge.

With Konami taking the plunge into new waters, it does make you wonder which publisher will be next to get their feet wet in the ocean? of iPhone games development.

    This is huge.

Konami, Square-Enix...indeed, if more popular publishers start making iPhone/iPod touch games, Nintendo will have some competition.
