What is the firmware version you have on the iphone btw?

Go to settings > general > about > version

and the code in the brackets. Mine is 5G77.

Is your phone going this slowly?

Hi, yeah, I'm relucatant to use the sim in another phone in case they do withdraw my data priviledges!

I have the latest firmware installed, 2.2.

I'm uploading a video to YouTube to show you what I mean about the keyboard being sluggish. It's nothing like the YouTube video you've posted, nowhere near, but it's still not able to keep up with my typing. I'll post the link when it's done uploading.

Here we go. You can clearly see the key highlighting and clicking noise being out of sync with my keypresses. It's very irritating as it sometimes misses letters out!

As I haven't really used the phone to type emails and SMSs, I've just tried the keyboard there too, and it's just as sluggish in these apps too. It seems that the phone is trying to animate every keypress, but it isn't able to do it fast enough, so the keypress and click noise end up behind where I'm at.

Open the sluggish App & clear it's memory:

Hold down the home key until the App quits and you are back to the home screen (about 6 seconds) This clears App memory, without restarting the whole device.

Additional For Safari: Go to "Settings" ---> "Safari" ----> Clear Cookies & Clear Cache

If the entire device seems sluggish, or experiences lag issues: RESTART the device

Turn iPhone completely off: Press and hold Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then drag the slider. Turn iPhone on: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

If none of the above works, RESET the device:

Hold down the "Home" button & the "Sleep/Wake" button simultaneously until the device shuts down AND restarts. Do not let go, hold down until you see the Apple logo.

This clears ALL App memory. You will see that everything is snappy again.

Last- if you still think you have a problem, RESTORE the device from your iTunes account, connected to your computer with the latest iTunes software.

One place where it is pretty slow is opening the 'settings' menu which takes a good 2 seconds for the list to appear everytime I open it. Is this normal? In addition, typing in Safari is very sluggish and the keyboard doesn't seem to be able to keep up with how fast I'm moving my fingers. I've already updated to 2.2, so this should have been fixed, but it doesn't appear to be. Is anyone else still having this problem? It also takes a good 2 seconds to load up my contacts etc, which are all features I'm used to accessing in a split second.

What I'm getting at is, is this the way it just is, or is there something wrong with my phone?

    Thanks,

    Michael.

mine (5H11) is perfectly responsive, except safari sometimes and settings.

can't detect any noticeable lags when I type... ok, my fingers are way too thick for those virtual keyboards...

Mine behaves the same way as the OP describes. It's not unbearable to me though, I live with it, as the overall interface is superior to any other phone I've seen (in my opinion.)

Mine's an original iPhone... perhaps the 3G is better somehow? (though I thought they ere the same cpu.)
