iStat for iPhone tracks Macs remotely

Long time Mac users will remember Bjango's free iStat widget, a utility that allows you to see resource usage and nearly every other technical detail concerning your Mac at a glance, rendered in a slick UI.

For those who wish to monitor the temperature of their hard drive while away from their Mac, they can now do so with an iPhone version of iStat ($1.99, App Store) that also requires the installation of a free iStat server from Bjango's website.

What's always been great about iStat, and which remains true here, is that it shows you things you didn't even know were monitored. Temperatures, fan speeds and the health of your battery can all be tracked. It can also show you more expected details like CPU usage, RAM and free hard drive space as well as handle basic networking tasks like displaying IP addresses or performing a ping or traceroute. It all comes with a cosmetic finish that is very hard to top, featuring beautifully rendered graphs and pie charts.

For some it could be considered overkill or, at worst, excessively nerdy -- but iStat also proves to be a very useful tool for those who need to keep a close eye on the secret lives of their Macs.
