Now that the Cube is dead, look for Apple to drop ADC. Maybe they'll come out with an external monitor that will actually work with their own portables.

Apple's entire screen lineup consists of ADC connection. Third party companies not only have released monitors with ADC, but more importantly there are now ADC converters available so you can use DVI monitors with the new powermacs as well as using the Apple LCD's with older macs.
I think Apple should open the ADC spec and make it license free. Our PC friends may actually enjoy the one cable connection and lower the prices for the rest of us.
There's no ADC adapter, right? So buying one would be hard.
On another note, my bet is that Apple makes the next generation of LCDs widescreen across the line. It seems the proper move to make in positioning themselves against the PC competitors. It also fits well for the digital video market. Then 15" would be replaced by a 17" and the 22" would remain.

I was under the impression that this was already the case. Also, ADC is basically an implementation of a public spec (whose name is escaping me), with a couple of tweaks.
Third parties are releasing ADC monitors and adapters now, so it's not just an Apple thing.
so perhaps the 15'' goes to imacland, the 17'' drops to the old 15'' pricepoint, a new 19'' slides in and the price of the studio drops just a tad bit more. that would make a nice announcement for seybold or tokyo

17, 19, 22 would be a nice lineup....
of course 17, 19, 22, 24 would be xtra cool.

A 17 inch LCD at the old 15 inch price point would be exactly what I was looking for. I'm not getting my hopes up though. Most likely it will be $799 for the 17 inch

ADC is Intel Plug and Display '97 with rounded edges on the connector and no FireWire, and no laptop charging power amongst other Apple tweaks.
I just don't understand why they adulterated this standard...
Am I missing something, but can't Apple release a new slew of LCD's with ADC for use with the Pro towers and also include a VGA port for use with it's own laptops?
It'd be nice if you could actually use Apple's displays on Apple's portables though.

Well yeah. I suggested a special laptop version of the ADC port without the pinouts that carry power. That way a simple ADC to VGA adaptor could be bundled for regular monitors AND an optional converter box that adds power could be used for their ADC displays. Or they could just add a "smart" AC adaptor port to the ADC monitors for use when not connected to a true ADC port.
Yes I have seen the Formac screen and I don't like it. The plastic moulding doesn't ecude the quality of the Apple screens. However it is bigger and cheaper, so I guess you get what you pay for.
I don't mind the 768 res of my 15" (old school studio display--graphite and milky white) but it's just not wide enough to get BBEdit's glossary or Fireworks panels on the same screen.
Of course... i would really like two 17's... but..
There is an VGA - ADC (!) adapter avaiable from Gefen, they introduced it during MacWorld Expo SF. It is called "extend it - VGA to ADC Conversion Box". Just take a look on their website: http://www.gefen.com/

It is not too cheap though - $349!
