MotionX GPS app updated to version 4.0
Today the popular GPS app MotionX GPS ($2.99, App Store) was updated to version 4.0, bringing a new interface, live topographic maps, amongst other features.
With a claimed two million iPhone users using MotionX GPS, it could very well be the most popular GPS app available on the App Store. Requiring an iPhone 3G - the only device with the appropriate GPS chipset for the app - MotionX is for "driving, biking, running hiking, walking, geocaching and sailing" (and imaginably any other activity that involves moving).
The new version of MotionX GPS offers the ability to show your position and saved 'tracks' on live topographic and road maps, in addition to being able to save 303 'waypoints' (locations which can then be exported to Google Maps and Google Earth), and save 101 tracks.
The app also features a stopwatch that can record time, speed, your maximum speed and distance - and then put all these together to make an estimated arrival time to your destination.
Finally the app also offers the ability to share geotagged pictures.
With some claiming the app is better than a dedicated $500 Garmin device, it may be an idea for those interested in where they are and where they're going to give MotionX GPS a go.
