I hope this isn't bad, but I just got another PowerMac Dual 1.25Ghz, and the Apple startup screen only shows up for about 2 sec's then the users login panel loads about 2 seconds after, that takes about 3 secs. I get about a 16 sec start up from dead cold to a fully usable computer. (Time includes time it takes to log into user)
<strong>does it really matter ? </strong><hr></blockquote>
Of course it damn well matters
We pay through the nose for apple hardare/software and frankly why should we put up with a machine that takes an eon to start up. Are there any mac users out there who will not sugar coat anything blindly? Are there any mac users out there who won't simply shrug off annoyances as if they don't matter despite the price they paaid for their hardware? I have a dual G4 450(1600 gb pounds) and a pentium II 400 I built myself (150 gb pounds). Its ludicrous that my windoze box is ready to work while the G4 is still on the grey screen.
I adore my Mac and only have the wiintel dump for compatibility with work but quite honestly there are time when the thing drives me mad. And before anyone goes on about the problems with PCs, my wintel box (Cr*p though it is) has NEVER crashed - just like the G4 next to it.
I've just given a demo to the funding holders at work to justify purchasing a new set of dualies for work. It took so long for our Graphites to boot that they were all looking at each other and rolling their eyes - so was I. Sure I know how great they are. but I won't be buying 30 of them. the funding holders do. It was embarassing to drag something to the dock to eject it only to have the dock freeze publicly for a few seconds before unfreezing and allowing me to continue the action I had carried out a few seconds ago. I could almost hear the "who the hell is this joker wasting our time" comments they must have been thinking.
For the love of all that is holy - start leaning on apple and we might actually see some advances
and no I haven't seen any concrete info on the 970 that fills me with hope.
