Microsoft posts Office 2008 trial edition, security updates
Microsoft is hoping to get those Mac users off the fence that haven't already bought its year-old Office 2008 for Mac and, on Tuesday, released a trial edition of the software.
The sampler lasts for 30-days but is fully functional, allowing all of the apps to work as they would in the paid version. As a side benefit, the trial also lets shoppers now download the trial version and buy just a product key; customers now don't have to buy a physical copy to get full access.
It's currently limited to English-literate US customers but should expand to more countries and languages in the near future.
Simultaneously, the company has released its Office 2008 12.1.7 update (268MB) and a corresponding Office 2004 11.5.4 update (9.7MB). The two bolster performance and security, and particularly patch holes that would let hackers write to a system's memory.
