...get it and install it on my iBook... if it decreases the speed then I might just stay with 10.2 indefinitely so as not to get hooked on wanting faster hardware and subsequently breaking the bank.

In your dreams. Point releases are for Pay now. Don't expect 10.3 until early to late summer and expect it to be a paid update.

...wait for 10.3.1, or 10.3.2, or whichever bugfix update seems to me to have squashed the main issues with the initial release.

    Then I'll buy it.

...be the first in line and wonder why there was no $20 'now up to date' program. (since my ass bought X, then X.1, then X.2) Granted, they have all been worth it...but I just don't want to pay 4 times.

Stick with 10.1.5. I know everything about how that OS works, and it doesn't matter what you throw at it, it remains as stable and secure as hell.

    There are more like me...

Wow, I can't believe people really find 10.1 more stable than 10.2. My experience has been the opposite, especially since 10.2.2 added the journaling option to make the filesystem rock-solid.

No kidding. 10.2 was another leap for OS X. Besides, it's not like it's another animal to learn troubleshootig for. If you know 10.1, you pretty much know 10.2.

When 10.3 comes out you and I will all pay, not $69, not $20, but $129 and you all know it! I will of course throw caution to the wind and install in manic episode.
