Problems can range from the "disappearing widgets" that started happening in 10.2.3 when people use old resources to the system not starting up properly AT ALL when 10.2 came out and people used old resource files.

All newer themechanger apps installs unix-scripts that you can just boot into single-user mode and revert to the original aqua files if that should happen.
Not a guarantee that things'll work, but still a reassurence.
Well, yes, of course you can boot into single user mode and tinker with carefully-placed backup files, but what novice Mac user wants to do that? Shoot, I know some pretty experienced Mac users that still never want to muck with the command line and couldn't find single-user mode without some very explicit instructions.
I know that most of you guys know what you are doing. That's because some of you probably have tinkered with the inner workings of the theme files and have learned just what files are changed and where. The simple truth is, though, that in the current state themes are *not* ready for the majority of users. It's just too risky. Average Joe Mac user isn't going to want to know how to restore /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Extras.rsrc or /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Localized.rsrc or some equally cryptic and confusing path name if the theme installer borks or the theme was meant for an older version of the OS.
OK I understand now Brad thanks. OS X seems so dumb, it can't ever track anything down on its own, whether it's looking for a Theme file, app to update, or Application to patch, like SafarIcon.
Themes are so kickass. I'd like to see a Hawaii (Maoui?) Theme like SafarIcon / ChimerIcon have to skin Chimera/Safari.
I couldn't find anything about iStudio in Google besides some "adult" page and a few others.
just so you know, i had a hard crash using themes. i had to wipe my drive on my powerbook and reinstall. so proceed at your own risk.

Same exact thing here, it pissed the living hell out of me! What a way to spend my day of,f too! Happened less than a week ago... therefore, I shall never use a theme again! My two cents.
What Theme did you use! I am scared now. I forgot to remove my Watercolor Theme before 10.2.4 and it's fine. However when I right-click on items in the Dock I can't use their menus. The menus come up but clicking on them is unresponsive. I'll try AquaFix and see if that fixes it.

i don't remember which one it was. it was one that replaced the icons as well. as soon as i ran it i had a kernel panic. when i restarted, it was kaput. gone. wouldn't boot from the system disc either. it happened a while ago so i'm not sure how i fixed it. i think i ran it as a target disk and formatted the drive. it was quite ugly.
i had previously been running one of the non-stripe themes and i loved it. but i think it may have cause some odd instability during boot up. all my apps that were supposed to open with login would quit as soon as they started. it's been working great since i let themes off.
