Who knew? The Global Village Teleport is still around:

So, can we put that name to sleep now? Go with Showtime...it's cooler.

"Showtime" sounds like a total no-go to me....there is a TV channel called Showtime, after all. (It's still around, right? I haven't had cable for awhile.) Either way, Apple would want to avoid the confusion. And legally, it's probably iffy, too.

I think everyone's guesses are way off (not that I have any good ones of my own): Apple Media Center sounds like the bland sort of marketing that those other guys would come up with, and I bet Apple will avoid the the whole i*whatever* scheme for this product. Something related to "hub" or "showtime" does make sense....I wonder if the name will be somehow related to Front Row?

By the way, I'm really surprised that Teleport isn't more popular. It sounds totally Apple to me, and it's pretty catchy and all.

Matinee works for me. I think the product name will speak to the 'experience' more than the technology.

STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP For god sake!!

Telewest broadband already have a trademark on the name Teleport- for a similar idea. Why just make up a name and start a post as to if anyone likes it???

We've only got a week to wait- I'm not suggesting a name cause every name suggested sounds lame- why do you think Apple spend millions of pounds on marketing if everyone could just come up with a name?

Somebody on a different thread thought of the name "Front Row Extreme." This makes a lot of sense to me. The iTV interface will most likely be identical to Front Row, anyway. They could even just call the iTV "Front Row." The software on Macs would have the same name, but it would essentially do the same thing, too.

i agree to that. makes sense for them to call it the ichat then instead of ipod phone or whatever.

also take a good look again to the itv preview on youtube or somewhere. the UI he uses is not the same as frontrow...in fact it even looks like a front row extreme.

There's a new version of front row coming soon, so that might be it. Front Row 2.0

That wouldn't matter in the slightest, this is a product, that's a service.

WTF! Give up the ghost on Teleport. A networking device, namely a line of modems, has had that name for years. OMFG!
