This isn't a modem. Though I don't mind Showtime, so it wouldn't bother me if they went with that name. It's just that 'Teleport' speaks to me, it just seems so right in every respect.

    Nuff said!

Although I take you point that brand names are used by different companies for different products, the examples you have shown are in completely different sectors. Whether teleport is a service or a product its still in the same sector, they both appear/connect to your TV. Apple could also possibly have some sort of on demand video service in the future.

Personally I think the name will have some sort of connection with the iPod brand.

    Not long to find out

show time is the name of a TV company/service in the US and other territories, i thoght google was your friend?

as to product and service ...mmm.. come ON! the modems are a PRODUCT and the telewest offering "teleport" is a SERVICE.. so BOTH are covered...

it IS a cool name... but let it DIE... we wont think any less of you if you let it slip away peacefully

    edited to add

the sweet people dont make ANYTHING REMOTELY like a car, same with the shirt makers who also dont make sweets or confectionary of any kind, therefore they all manage to co-exist without anyone confusing the different products.

you think if i set up a pogo stick manufacturing plant and called my sticks 'iPods' that Apple MIGHT in theroy let me call them so? whereas if i started making music playback devices they would jump on my head..

i cant understand how you DONT seem to get this

Teleport sounds about as un-Apple as it gets. It also sounds like a modem or something you'd hook up to a phone jack. Or it just sounds like it is a phone jack.

I expect iTV to be called "iPod TV" or "iTunes TV" or something like that. Or I suppose if it really runs an OS X "lite" they might call it "Mac TV". Or maybe even "iPod HDTV", "iTunes HDTV", or "Mac HDTV".

I'm liking Showtime and Matinée. To those that keep bringing up the TV network to refute the naming of a media streaming device, I say, "so what". Google 'trademark'.

In any event, if it's released tomorrow, I'm buying it. I broke out my shiny credit card for the occasion.
