Perhaps at e3 along with the EA and id rollouts in July 11-13.

That would be two weeks after the iphone launch and just in time for the Sept shopping season.

I feel your pain. I have been waiting since November. sat through MWSF07, then WWDC07. When will it finally happen?

Now I am considering a Mac Pro with Cinema Display, that is if those ever get updated. I am at the point where I will probably buy the first updated system; Mini, iMac, Pro-update any of them!

Oooh, I like that idea. Maybe that's what John Carmack was alluding to... something he couldn't announce until the new iMacs were released ... bundled with ID games!

My ancient G4 700MHz is really starting to show its age-

first I waited for WWDC '06.

Then I waited until MWSF '07

After that, I waited again until WWDC '07 (I was absolutely SURE they would update iMacs significantly, this time),

    yet still damn nothing.

Damn it Apple, is it too much to ask for a somewhat decent GPU and even I dare say a decent CPU ?! Here we go again, waiting...

Lets see - maybe even, luckily, the iMac line will be updated by WWDC '09

    Ptsh.

    I feel your pain.

I doubt it. Apple is readying itself for the iPhone onslaught/marketing effort, from now until mid-July. They won't obfuscate new hardware introductions while they're riding the iPhone wave. So don't expect two series of iMac models -- just one, probably at the end of July (but possibly a little later).

that would mean nearly 12 months without any form of hardware update

very much doubt they will leave the imac that long

a silent update to santa rosa would not take any of the limelight away from the precious iphone

but on the flipside, they could cash in on the iphone hype with newly designed imacs to show off on june 29th?

The big Apple UK trade distributors Ingram Micro, Westcoast and Computer2000 have all had stirring within their Mac teams in the last week about the 17" iMac getting the chop "very soon" I'm told, I think rather than culling it from their current range the chop will be made within a complete overhaul of the iMac range, with the 20" (or even oddly, a 19" has been suggested) being the smallest available... but don't expect to see the same price tag as the current 20"... true to Apple expect to see a refreshed range that's up on spec, down on price... with LED displays as standard as part of Apple's "going green" thing

Personally I loved the design of the iMac G4 with the screen on a pole jobby (the term has dropped from my mind but I hope u get the idea, lol)

I think this is a circular rumour though.
    • iMac/mini/whatever doesn't get an update when expected.

    • Someone prophesises something daft like Apple killing off it's low end computers.

    • Uninformed sales guy at a distributor reads the rumour.

    • Next time a customer rings and there's low stock on the iMac, they tell the customer Apple are killing it

    • Customer adds to rumour on the rumour site saying a distributor told them so it must be true

    • and so on...

I don't see why no new hardware introductions. They won't be nearly as much hyped as the iPhone, not to mention that the phone and computer markets are far from each other. I agree, probably not for at least a month after the iPhone release, but after that, there's September and Apple Expo in Paris, where the previous iMacs were released. Also, where are your sources for no second line? I believe it was Mac Rumors (who recently were correct in their MBP update call) who reported that the iMac's new redesign (the fact of which was also reported here at AI) is going to start with a 20" display, and

The fact that they are designing it to match the Pro lines, and that the iMac has always been the 'go-to, do-anything, Mac-for-anyone,' shows two completely different market sets that are being aimed at here. They are having two lines, my friend. And I think it could turn out to be a hit.

Nope. Ain't happening. Apple's put far too much on the line for the iPhone to take any focus off of it for at least a month. Heck, they delayed their main focus - computers (Leopard, specifically, and possibly new hardware, who knows) - for it. There's too much riding on the handset to try something like that.
