IPhone calling and data pricing confirmed.

Friday evening june 23rd i went to my local at&t store to see if i could get any more info on iPhone service pricing being that i have a family plan that had expired in may and needed to know if iPhone would fall into a combined plan or if it would have to be done separately. The at&t store manager assured me that iPhone would indeed have the same phone service plan as all other phones for voice calling. Second i was told pricing for data would be in line with the likes of the service for treo. So I guess my dream of a $19.99 data plan are out the window. The cheapest PDA unlimited plan starts at $44.99 so my guess is the cheapest it could be for iPhone would be $50 a month. I asked if I were eligible for an upgrade discount and was told just for the main number to the sum of $50 but they didn't know if they would be able to apply it to the iPhone's $499 and $599 price.

Here is a link to PDA price plans.

Is that just for data or does that plan include any voice minutes/text?

Do you even have to get the data plan? I'm planning on getting most of my data over WiFi. I'm guessing I'll be able to find open networks most anywhere. Can I dump the data plan?

AT&T has said they would announce plans later. This store manager doesn't know and is just guessing. If it had been confirmed to store managers, everyone else would already know too.

So is the iPhone a PDA or a smartphone?
