ProTools for X by Fall. Confirmed. hehe

Tommy,

We are definitely working on it, but have not yet announced a firm release

date for Pro Tools OSX support - only that we have been working with Apple

for well over a year on this very complex project. However, we do expect it

to be no later than this fall. Please rest assured that it is a top

priority and that an entire team of engineers is involved in this project.

As far as the upgrade path, we do not currently have that information

available either. Please stay tuned to our website. We will surely post

all information there as soon as it is available.

If you would like to purchase you new hardware now in order to get started

and do install OSX to use other applications, you will need to install it

on a separate drive or a separate drive partition on pre-Quicksilver G4

models. You will still need to boot from OS 9 in order to run Pro Tools.

For more information regarding compatibility and the new "Quicksilver" G4

models that ship with a dual boot system with both OS 9.2.x and OS X

installed, see the Compatibility Documents:

&gt;Can you give me a rough idea of when there will be support for OS X? even

&gt;concerning just the driver so I can play my itunes through my digi ool

If you read the email from Digidesign, they cleary say ProTools OSX support. And the fact that they've been working on this project with apple doesn't assist your rumor at all because Digidesign used apple's help with previous versions of ProTools (for classic) as well.

I am willing to put any amount of money that ProTools will continue to be a Digidesign product.

    Apple ProTools X.

Uh, did I miss the part where he claims it would be Apple branded?

    Cuz he didnt

and i think Protools coming to X is a no-brainer.

It's just a matter of time.

I'm saying that it's possible, by fall, Apple will have its OWN audio suite, and ProTools will be late to the scene, and suddenly facing an in-house brand.

    not exactly TommyBrando.

That does not say Apple Pro Tools. That says Apple's own.

Apple works with all developers. working with them means **** . they worked with the Watson guy and now look what happened. they ripped it off.

BIG difference between Digidesign and Karelia Software. I don't think Apple could compete with Digi anyways. ProTools is not the type of software that you can just whip up quickly.

Well it appeared there was an implication of that nature because after all, There is no g5's reply to my post about ProTools being ready in a few months was a link to his thread which begins with him saying that apple has been working with a certain third-party developer on an audio app it would release as its own in three months.

If thats not what he was implying than i apologize, but it obviously sounded like that was what he was saying when he used it as a reply to my post.

haven't apple just hired the guy who wrote SuperCollider <a href="http://www.audiosynth.com/whyfree.html"; target="_blank">SuperCollider</a>..

I can't remember his name. good program though. this would suggest something in os x dsp. or maybe he's just a good coder?

FINALLY!!!! I can finally use my DIGI setup in X w/out having to switch back to 9. I dispise 9. And i knew apple wouldnt contend with ProTools in the highend - recording segment. ProTools works with soo much outboard gear that Apple would have to play catch up for years to be as hooked up like that.

Actually, this makes sense. ProToolsX will probably coincide with the Jaguar release somewhat. I know that the audio components of OSX have not been ready up until now, and there were some interesting screenshots at ThinkSecret with Jaguar audio features.
  • Reply 14 of 30
Yep, it was pretty busted up till 10.1.5 but the Audio/MIDI control panel in Jaguar is really good, very useful... It's what they should have done to begin with...

If I were to buy an audiomedia card for PT LE now, what are teh chances that it would work for an OSX version of PT?

Do you think that I would have to upgrade the card?

    Or just the software?

I was under the assumption that PT LE only currently works with the Digi001, Mbox, and the (discontinued ?) PCI card/ PT LE bundle thing.

If i could get another PCI card and expand my DIGI setup to more I/O i would LOVE it.

seems to me that most of the major audio-software is waiting for jaguar.

cubase sx (out for xp, but not for os x)

    pro tools x

logic 5 x (well, this could take until OS XI 50.1.2)

DAMN i finally want to see how os x does with audio-stuff. has anyone seen reason 2 in action for that matter?

my question, if someone could help me here please, IS: will the hardware also have to be updated when ProTools finally gets OSX ready?

please give me your opinion people... cause I want to buy an audiomedia card today and want it to still be good in the future!!

I am 99.99% sure that ProTools X will support all the hardware that the current 5.1 version does. Im positive that Digi001 will continue to sell as is, without an update right up until at least the release date of ProTools X. That leads me to believe that they wouldnt release software that doesnt support the hardware they were selling that very day therefore im fairly sure the current PCI cards and other hardware will be supported.

I would be surprised if they continue to support the old AM3 card in the OSX version. Its been around for ages and isnt sold new any more. I wouldnt buy one if I was you, I had one using Protools in a 9600/G3-500 and I wasnt thrilled with it, esp no multi-channel I/O. Bite the bullet and buy a Digi 001, or a new MBox if you dont need all that I/O.
