which is better: 8600M GT 128mb or 256mb

The 8600M GT 256mb sounds better and looks better than 128mb. But is it really faster? I know memory isn't everything when it comes to graphics cards, but does it really make a significant performance difference between these cards?\

Typically, more memory is good, but from what I've read of benchmarks the difference in real-world performance is really minimal. Not worth the money, really.

Here's a link to the barefeats.com benchmark review. Like gloss said, the real world difference is minimal at best. I'm having the same dilema in deciding which one to get. $500 dollars i quite a bit on $$ when you could upgrade your memory to 4gb for half that. This is probably why the 2.2 is so difficult to find. Every Apple store here in Houston sells out of them within hours of getting them in. I may have to get the 2.4ghz model simply because it's available!

Good link that the OP should read. I agree, the base level MBP is really the best value in the MBP lineup.

Here's another link to Macworld's review of all three machines.

The author of this one agrees too that the 2.2 is the better bargain.

I did end up buying a 2.4 yesterday, but I'll be returning it today to exchange it for a 2.2 model. With the extra cash, I can get CS3 for (I get a HUGE student discount), a bag to carry the thing around in and AppleCare for it. Not to mention, I can upgrade the RAM to 4gb.
