Yeah I think I will make the purchase then, in the coming weeks. £250 is an Educational price through apple.

Overhope. If I had to pay out £850 for a company copy then I would be wetting myself if I knew some one was buying it for £250! One of the few advantages for going to Uni ! Just got a Daul 867! Absolutely smokes!!!

Adding the following, if anyone has any suggestions then?

    512 MB DDR RAM = £81 from <a href="http://www.crucial.com/uk"; target="_blank">www.crucial.com/uk</a>

Final Cut Pro 3 = £250 from Apple Educational

    Total = £341 (including VAT)!

    Sounds good to me!

Is it worth waiting for FCP4? out of interest??

I really doubt another major upgrade for Final Cut Pro will be released any time soon.

    So, go buy it now!

    You won't regret it.

Don't expect FCP 4 until next late spring or summer

Hey, you start fiddling with it now you will be in a good shape by the time it's mainstream. Works great on any G4, but get a decent size monitor you don't want to be hurting your eyes  !

    I have G4 500 single and I'm not complaining.

I concure with Bee Gees, get a good big monitor... spend as much as you can afford there and cut back on the cpu if you have to. Render times won't be as big of a deal if you are always having to fight with all of the palettes as they start to overlap. I see renders as an opportunity to get up and get something to eat/drink or go to the washroom.... They are not as much of an issue as everyone makes them out to be. The difference between a DP867 and a DP1.25, Will not have nearly the same impact on your work as the difference between a 17" monitor and a 22" monitor. Sure you want to have the hottest thing on the block, but when it comes down to it, artistry and creativity mean a lot more than speed.

FCP eats alot of screen realestate. I also recommend getting a video card that can run a NTSC or PAL monitor. This will help emensely as you try to calibrate colours.

or get a sony media converter for the NTSC monitor.

    Plus two monitors.

Buy the program -support is good, and besides the crack doesn't work with the upgrades you'l just spend an amazing amount of time trying to figure out how to open it . . . besides its only three hundred bucks!!!!!!!

it feels good to contribute what you can!!

I personally have found FCP 3+ to be buggier, by far, than FCP2+

I think Apple needs to get a handdle on the bug issues . . . and there are plenty of them . . . just scan the forums at 2-pop . . .(geat, very usefull site)

Anyway . . . its worth it though, it is really the best out there for the money . . . and really will be the standard soon enough, if not allready.

(just a note: the learning curve is not really as hard as peope say . . . compare it to getting OOP under your belt in Director )
