MY DELUSIONAL OPINION - iBook Revision At MWSF
Well, the regulars here know me, and know that I don't get too involved in Future Hardware predictions like some people, but something just happened that makes me absolutely certain that the iBook is getting souped up at MWSF.
There is a user on eBay that I always keep an eye on, as I bought one of my PowerBooks from him quite awhile ago. I've noticed a trend with this guy. He will go months without an auction, then suddenly he's got 3 Macs or more on the go. And they are always right before a revision.
I know he gets his Macs from a "friend" in Vancouver and is selling them for him. (no, they are not stolen, as did have my PB registered with Apple) I have a feeling this friend is a Mac dealer of some kind, or atleast someone with access to Macs at cost, and gets them on the cheap when models are clearing out for new ones to come in.
I was just offered a DVD iBook from this guy for $1200 US, with no tax. He doesn't sell things this cheap usually, I know that. Since the rebate is over now, that's $300 US off retail pricing. (No, it's not a scam, I can hop in the car and be at his store in 3 hours, and buy this iBook in person - more than 1 if I want)
I haven't been able to get a hold of this guy today (probably won't with New Years) to ask him about this, but maybe I'll have some more info tomorrow. I just got his email offer yesterday.
So I am convinced we will see new iBooks in SF. Way too much hype for them to go untouched. I honestly think new iMacs, seriously charged up PowerMacs (G5 I'm hoping...), and revamped iBooks.
The only thing that is troubling me is this $200 discount people are talking about with 550 MHz PowerBooks.... might we be seeing 667 and up only PowerBooks? This seems the most unlikely, but you can't deny that there seems to be atleast a chance of this happening...
*sigh*
6 days.

6 Days, is a long time
iBook pricing is great though.
Hmmm... I don't quite know how this bit of pseudo detective work equals the "CONFIRMED" bit of your thread...

Well, what is your def of REAL detective work? Tell me.

The $200 discount people are talking about is for the 550 Ti WITHOUT the combo drive... I don't think they are getting updated...
Still if I could get a 550 for less then 1999, that would be sweet b/c you can upgrade to a combo for 300, so it would be below cost...

Hmm....
And the iPod wouldn't ship for 10 business days, or January 15!!

You have to admit that telling us a new iBook is CONFIRMED all becuase of some dude who has connections with someone up in Canada and happens to be selling iMacs at a low price is... well.. hey, it's pretty thin evidence wouldn't you say?
It sure isn't something I'd bet the ranch on would you?

Unless of course something new and novel happens. I expect that the new iMac will overlap the iBook's hegemony a bit...
Of course I haven't seen anything concrete...
I never claimed to giving hard evidence man, just my thoughts on the new iBook. Chill out.
Oh, and I have connections with some guy up in Canada because I live up in Canada. Make sense?
Well, if you've spend any amount of time here, you'll know that "CONFIRMED" is somewhat of an inside joke.

Heh... and if you've spent any time reading the messages that get posted here then you'd realize using CONFIRMED isn't an inside joke at all and most people who do use it in a topic name usually get bashed for it...
Dave
May the AI Gods shit down on me.
I beg the group's forgiveness.

Actually, I haven't ever seen an oldtimer/regular here ever get bashed for using CONFIRMED because most of us know that it's an AI inside joke. And murbot is definately not a person who makes up bs or lies about future hardware so there's no reason for him to get bashed.

Someone like him using it and someone like Junkyard Dawg or MasterGater using it are two COMPLETELY different things.
One is an inside joke, the other is someone being a dick.
