Need a foolproof way to port my number
I am aware of the "workaround" regarding zip codes to allow keeping my old number. Here is my situation:
1) Opened an account with Cingular in Tampa years ago, received my current number.
2) Ported my number to Nextel last year in Gainesville, FL, kept my Tampa area code.
3) Now porting my number back to AT&T.
I want to keep my phone number, a Tampa area code, but I'm porting it from my Nextel account, which I opened in Gainesville. For Nextel to release my number, do I have to use a Tampa zip code or a Gainesville zip code? If all else fails, will the reps fix it for me? Thanks.

Also, I will be terminating my Nextel contract early. Will that occur automatically by porting my number?
Yes, that'll occur automatically. Sorry, I don't know about your other questions, I'm sure someone else can answer them.
