Words

Well, now that there is a grammar thread, it seemed appropriate to create one on words in general. Post words that are fun to say, tongue twisters, words you cannot stand, interesting etymologies, PUNS (can't believe I left such a worthy word related category out) etc...

The French navy adopted a new slogan "To the water; it is time!", more properly written "A l'eau; c'est l'heure!".

Oh noes! Not Oedilf. I had a bit of a run in with the pedants at Oedilf a few years back (I'm not the only one). Haven't visited them in ages. I must go check them out. Tonton survived the ordeal better than me. Ironically, Meg, who I ran up against, left the site soon after me when one of the admins accused her of being a drunk (as well as a human pretending to be a beagle).

I even submitted a secret coded AppleInsider limerick defining "apple worm" (IIRC) during the brief time I spent annoying them.

My favourite word is "awkward." The "wkw" is, well, awkward. I can't think of a better example of a word describing itself.

"The Thesaurus roamed the North American continent for millions of years before it was wiped out by an asteroid."

    It does sound weird.

Hmmm. French Navy. <Thinks about past successes -- fails> Does that mean they are advertising extended swim calls? Or are they abandoning ship?
