I've seen it at some warez places, haven't gotten around to downloading it--I think it is available separately from Office v.X, though it may not be released publicly as such, yet.

MacCentral has an article today that says Real Player will be 'here' sometime in 2002.

Sounds like sh!t but at least better than no words at all

I've had a WMP beta for a little while now, but the final shipping with Office X will be posted as a free download at some point. Apparently the browser plugin works too.

Honestly, the only sites where I feel like I miss out because I dont use the Real Player is ESPN.com. Every once in a while I like to watch the hockey clips or interviews. But even so, at 56k, the quality is so crappy that I don't even bother most of the time.

I'd try it more often if they used a QT format though... for those of you who visit said site it might be worthwhile to suggest to the webmaster that they use QT Movie format since it supports Winblows too. Make the argument that the video quality is much higher, blah blah...

I'd be happy if everyone just used QuickTime. I can't stand RealPlayer, either. Ugly, clunky, unreliable, etc.

Real Player is a POS but unfortunately, until we convert everyone to QuickTime, it is needed.

Real Player used to take over 30 seconds to quit on my G3 - no joke! Since I upgraded, it only takes about 6 seconds.

I have a feeling Windows Media will take over Real's spot rather than QT. Both are pretty good and have their strengths and weaknesses.

Glad to hear that the new WiMP for Mac is decent, it used to be a complete piece of crap.

For one QT and WMP are all ready used more than RM. For Two neither of them will take over each other. They will do what they always have been doing.. offer it in both formats. BTW very rarely do I just see WMP format being offered. But many many times I have seen just QT being offered. QT has been the multimedia standard for over 10 years now.

BTW....if we can stream MPEG file I think I may suggest people to use MPEG file instead. MPEG can be viewed by WMP on PC and QT on Mac without problem....

That would be awesome if someone would put the free software on their iDisk. I would be interested to see how it works.

Strange they are shipping it with Office, but don't have it for download...

I wish Apple would just buy Real and put that player out of its misery.

    Plus

QT+Real = instant marketshare and mindshare.
