hmm. i would find that quite curious. if memory serves me right (no, i'm not doing a chairman kaga impersonation) avid was bought or somehow merged with softimage, which has heavy investment from microsoft.

plus, it seems now, from all the professional editors i talk to about this, that apple may have already won the game over video editing. of course, these are all editors that are still using media composer, but whenever i ask about final cut, most of them say it's about 90% there and at less than 10% of the price of an avid system. they all think it's an eventuality that they will switch their companies (big commercial/video editing houses) to fcp at some point. the only thing holding them back seems to be device control on fcp isn't as good as on avid (like controlling umatic decks and such). but maybe they're driving the stake into the heart of avid and just swallowing them whole.

Okay, I'll make it hardware now:

MOSR has been talking about G5 for months now, so what about it now? They are even not mentioning it !??! <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

psantora, that is future hardware, Avid is a hardware developer as well as software.

If it's true it's big news but I have no idea what it means. FCP was suppose to be 'Avid killer', so what happens now? Apple making Media Composer cards etc? Optimised PowerMacs? What about FCP? Exiting stuff but it definitely means less competition in the market, usually bad news for the consumer. I was looking forward to FCP competing with AVid Xpress DV Mac.

I actually hope the rumor ain't true, but I may change my mind...

As far as I know M$ has already dropped Softimage. Don't know about Avid.

    Hmm, on second thought, yes.

Sorry about coming off as an asshole (why isn't there an embarrased emoticon?). It's just that there has been a LOT of stupid threads lately in FH that dont belong here and it is annyoing. Again, sorry, my bad.

Screw Avid...best part about that purchase would be getting Digidesign.
