Therefore- no need for a presentation at all-which overplays what's offered and renders "cry wolf" for future products. Past iPod presentations will always be remembered for 1 great new item. What will this one be remembered for? The Genius SideBar?
The event was about music not only iPod. Look at AI article about the event when it was announced.

Apple has scheduled the event to take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10:00 a.m. local time next Tuesday.
The invites confirm reports of a September 9th event originally waged by Digg founder Kevin Rose. I don't see anyone crying "wolf" not even Apple! You know that Apple sells music and movies not just iPhones and Macs, don't you?! That's what this event is about. In my opinion, this event will be remembered as the time when Apple got into the portable gaming market.
Macworld is about 4 months away and Apple already released many major products this year (MacBook Air, iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software, and OS X 10.6 announcement). The only thing that people are waiting for are the new Mac updates, which should come no later that Macworld.
Well... i watched the keynote (and i was reading blogs which had live input of what was happening during the event) and in the end i found myself with the "Is this it?" feeling! Don't get me wrong! The iPods are great but i'm still thinking that something's missing... and i know what's missing: the Macs even knowing that this would be a music/iPod event. It would be really nice if they could have gave us some light about the new Macs to come (yes, i know that's not usual).
When are the new Macs arriving? It would be nice this month but I don't think they're going to make two launch events on the same month

4 months!!! ARRGGGGHHH! No way! That's too much time for us to get the hands on our new Macs!!!

Last year the Mac special event was on Tuesday, August 7th. The iPod/iTunes special event was on on Tuesday, September 5th.
Only the Mac Mini and iMacs were updated that August. MBPs and Mac Pros came two months earlier and the MB came later in November. The big deal last fall was the iPod/iTunes event. Perhaps Apple is putting the most revolutionary of the two close to the Holiday season to attract more consumers. Perhaps this is a clue to the Mac line (sans the the iMac) are up for complete retooling.

Months since last refresh:
. . .13 ? Mac Mini

Ok... the laptops had their refresh 7 months ago but there were only some hardware updates (mainly processors and graphics memory updates on MBPs). The thing now is that they're going to have new design and some (rumored) hardware changes, so i guess it's not to soon for a new update

1) Apple needs a lot more of the high-end CPUs out of the gate than other OEMs who usually only offer the new chips as BTO orders online in their high-end systems.
2) Apple's growth would make this issue even worse for Apple so they have to wait or Intel has to ramp up production more. After all, Apple is only using a handful of all the new Montevinas available. They use the top half dozen chips that aren't the overpowered and overheated Extreme versions. Now Intel has a 35mm^2 and 22mm^2 SFF version for many of its notebooks so I winder if Apple is going to only go for these so it keep with the tradition of making smaller machines without sacrificing power. The 35mm packages are available now, are the 22mm packages?
3) I think Apple has traditionally drawn out the last release right before a case revision. (I'll need to check MacTracker later to verify)
